Warframe received a much anticipated update last night, after it was announced during E3 that the update would arrive this week. The update is called "The Sacrifice," and it includes a cinematic story quest of the same name, as well as the new Excalibur Umbra warframe.

The Sacrifice is Warframe's first cinematic story quest since The War Within released during the Update 19 cycle back in late 2016. Since then the game has seen some narrative quests like Chains of Harrow and its first open-world update in the Plains of Eidolon, but nothing so decidedly cinematic.

The Sacrifice also comes with Excalibur Umbra, a stylish new warframe that specializes in dealing with the Sentient enemy type. Like a Prime warframe, Excalibur Umbra is a modified version of its base - Excalibur, in this case. It comes with a few key modifications that make it more powerful, as well as a unique skin that makes it, frankly, one of the most stylish warframes in the game right now.  Excalibur Umbra will be available immediately after finishing the quest; no Warframe grind necessary.

The update comes just a few weeks before TennoCon, the annual gathering for Warframe developers and fans where most of Warframe's larger announcements are made. While it isn't likely that a new story quest will be announced there, it's been made clear during Digital Extremes' frequent developer livestreams that Warframe will soon get an open world area in Venus, similar to the Plains of Eidolon.

TennoCon will begin on July 7th, and should come with no shortage of new announcements to keep the Warframe community invested now that The Sacrifice has finally released on PC. There is currently no confirmed release date for The Sacrifice on Xbox One or PS4.
