Warframe fans have waited for most of 2020 for Digital Extremes to bring the free-to-play shooter to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but the good news is that the wait is almost over, for the most part. Today, the developer announced that Warframe will be arriving first on the PS5 this year, while the XSX version will follow at a “later” date.

In announcing this, Digital Extremes hyped the usual next-gen improvements like reduced loading times and 4K/60fps gameplay, as well as a game-wide texture remaster and a new dynamic lighting system. Additionally, it was confirmed that Warframe will also feature cross-gen support between the PS4 and PS5, allowing players to play together and carry their progress from the current-gen version to the next-gen one. The Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions will also include cross-gen features, but details about those will come later on.

Digital Extremes is clearly focusing on the PS5 version for the time being, as it went into detail about how the next-gen port will utilize the console’s unique features. At launch, the game will use the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers to increase the impact of shots fired, and there are plans to add even more haptic-based features in the future. The port will also make use of the PS5’s Activities system by letting players keep track of trophy progress and jump into exclusive challenges without having to load the rest of Warframe.

Lastly, it was confirmed that a free booster pack is now available for PS Plus members. This pack includes a new Sedai Obsidian Syandana with a design inspired by the DualSense, along with a 7-day experience booster, a 7-day currency booster, 100,000 credits, and 100 platinum.

Warframe is free-to-play for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. The game will come to PS5 this year and Xbox Series X at a later date.
