Warcraft 3: Reforged released just last week, and saying that the title has not been well received would be a gross understatement. Indeed, many fans have found this new remaster from Blizzard seriously underwhelming, a sentiment that can be seen reflected in Warcraft 3: Reforged's Metacritic score, and the developer has now responded to the unrest surrounding the title with an adjustment to its standard refund policy.
Specifically, Blizzard has officially announced that it will be honoring refunds upon request for Warcraft 3: Reforged regardless of when the game was purchased or if it was used. The developer notes that these two factors typically limit a player's ability to receive a refund on a Blizzard title, and the exception being made here speaks volumes about just how deep the criticisms leveled against Warcraft 3: Reforged run.
To note, Blizzard indicates that this open refunding is available "for the time being," and players that are looking to get their money back should thus not wait too long before pursuing it. That said, fans may want to take a look at the changes coming to Warcraft 3: Reforged, which the developer outlined earlier this week, in preface of requesting a refund, as those changes may ultimately address some of the playerbase's issues with the game.
While players began receiving refunds for Warcraft 3: Reforged at the beginning of this week, this is the first time that Blizzard's revised policy has been officially stated, and some fans will be happy to learn that they can now refund the game without issue. Certainly, this is a far cry from what was occurring immediately following the game's release, when refunds were being denied outright, and it shows that players' criticisms of Warcraft 3: Reforged have not gone unheard.
Unfortunately, many players will consider receiving a refund less desirable than having access to the Warcraft 3 remaster that they were dreaming of. Hopefully for these fans, the changes that Blizzard is promising will be enough to get Warcraft 3: Reforged into suitable, if not stellar, shape, and perhaps the developer will provide even more clarity on how this remaster fell so short of player expectations in the future.
