Wanted: Dead is a game that's designed with difficulty in mind, as evidenced by the game's very first main boss fight. Even when playing on Wanted: Dead's secret difficulty setting, beating the Spider Tank can be incredibly challenging, particularly for those who are new to the hack-and-slash genre and still getting used to the game's controls.

The battle is made up of two distinct phases, both of which can be tricky, to begin with. However, while players will soon be able to master the first phase of the fight with just a little bit of practice, the second is nowhere near as simple, with many players requiring a guide on how to beat the Spider Tank in Wanted: Dead to finally bring an end to the game's first stage.

How to Beat the Spider Tank in Wanted: Dead (Phase 1)

When the first phase begins, players will find themselves in cover with the Spider Tank dead ahead of them. Rather than staying here and getting trampled like Mufasa in The Lion King though, they'll instead want to run either to the left or tight and try and get behind this mechanical monstrosity as quickly as possible. Once there, they'll be free to hack and slash away at one of its legs until the boss begins to glow white, at which point, performing a finisher will bring the phase to an end.

The Spider Tank may turn and charge at the player before becoming vulnerable, though, providing players pay close attention to the way that it's facing, this should be easy enough to dodge using Circle (PlayStation) or B (Xbox).

After a short cutscene, the second phase of the Spider Tank boss phase will begin. During this phase, the boss will constantly be charging around the arena and will occasionally fire a powerful ranged attack directly at players. Getting hit by either can take out a significant chunk of Hannah's health bar, so players should put as much distance between themselves and the rampaging mech as possible.

Not long into this phase, Doc will suggest grabbing a grenade launcher, but players shouldn't waste their time searching for one on the ground. Instead, they'll need to take out one of the regular enemies who has a grenade launcher and then pick it up, neither of which is easy with the Spider Tank still dashing around launching rockets every few seconds. To make matters worse, the enemies with grenade launchers will be firing them at players too, making this a pretty tricky section to navigate.

The best strategy here is to lure the Spider Tank over to one side of the arena and then dash over toward an enemy on the opposite side. Assuming players have unlocked the grenades skill, which is one of the best upgrades to buy first in Wanted: Dead, they can throw a grenade at the enemy so that they're dead by the time that players reach them, allowing them to grab the Flying Pig grenade launcher before the Spider Tank catches up. From here, it's just a simple case of hitting the Spider Tank with grenades until it becomes vulnerable again and then ending the encounter with another finishing blow.

Wanted: Dead is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, and PC.
