Highlights

  • WandaVision director, Matt Shakman, stated that there probably won't be a season 2 because the show told a complete story about Wanda and her journey through grief.
  • Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is not a second season of WandaVision, but it exists in the same universe with some of the characters from the show.
  • Despite the absence of WandaVision season 2, Wanda's story may continue indirectly through spin-off series and potential appearances in upcoming Avengers movies.

WandaVision season 2 received a significant yet disheartening update from director Matt Shakman, who cautioned viewers not to hope for another installment of his hit Disney Plus series.

WandaVision is one of the most popular MCU shows and provides exhilarating fun for the viewers. The story about Wanda Maximoff's grief resonated with the viewers and made the series even more appealing, and fans have asked Marvel Studios to renew WandaVision for season 2. However, Shakman has broken their hearts by sharing a discouraging update.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty lost a pivotal member, but why did this person leave Marvel Studios' anticipated Multiverse Saga movie?

During an interview with The Direct, the 48-year-old director opened up about WandaVision season 2 and didn't shy from giving a clear answer to what fans can expect in the future. Shakman noted that he doesn't think there will be a WandaVision season 2 because they always wanted to tell a "specific story" about Wanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, and they did that in Season 1. Shakman said, "I don't think so, you know, we were telling a very specific story, a complete story; a story about grief, about Wanda's journey, having lost Vision, and we completed that story. And Jac Schaeffer is an amazing writer who wrote 'WandaVision', [and she] has created a show called 'Agatha'.” On the other hand, Shakman left no stone unturned to clarify that Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is not a second season of WandaVision.

[‘Agatha is] not a ' WandaVision ' Season 2, but it's definitely existing in that universe, of course, and with some of the characters that you met on that show, Agatha , in particular… So, you know, there are elements of 'WandaVision' that are out there still in their own way. But, a proper WandaVision Season 2, with more sitcom styles, and all of that is definitely not in the cards.

An image of Wanda (Scarlet Witch) glowing her eyes

The rumors of WandaVision not getting a second season started floating when Marvel Studios updated the cover of its official timeline book. According to reports, the initial cover had Scarlet Witch in it. However, the production giant updated the cover photo, replacing Wanda with Loki and Sylvie. Regardless of Wanda's direct return to the MCU, WandaVision can persist indirectly through its spiritual successors. Agatha Harkness, WandaVision's antagonist, will be part of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, extending her storyline. Meanwhile, White Vision, the reborn form of Vision, will take center stage in Vision Quest. WandaVision provided a comprehensive narrative, connecting Wanda's journey from Avengers: Endgame to Multiverse of Madness.

Another aspect that makes the show's return impossible is how Elisabeth Olsen has already stated that she has no plans to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch. Olsen has been proud of her achievements while playing the character for almost a decade, but it's time for her to move on and enjoy her other roles. However, there's no need for concern about the absence of WandaVision season 2 or pre-announced Scarlet Witch appearances. Reports suggest that Wanda might return to the MCU and help her fellow superheroes in the upcoming Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Fans hope to witness Elizabeth Olsen donning her iconic costume in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects while desiring a compelling storyline for the character. Following Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios faces the daunting task of crafting a captivating narrative for this vital and intriguing character. Well, everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for another Scarlet Witch adventure.
