While WandaVision helped give supporting characters like Wanda Maximoff and Vision rich development, many viewers of the series couldn't stop talking about one of the new characters. After much mystery surrounding the nosy neighbor Agnes, Kathryn Hahn's character was revealed to be the villainous Agatha Harkness. After stealing the show, fans were eagerly waiting to hear about Agatha's future in the MCU. Now comes news of her exciting return.

Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios is currently at work on a spinoff show starring Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Though details of the series are being kept under wraps, it has been described as a dark comedy, which makes perfect sense for the character of Agatha. The outlet also reports that WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as writer and executive producer for the new series.

Hahn was introduced in WandaVision as Wanda and Vision's friendly neighbor Agnes. Though the character fits nicely into the sitcom world that WandaVision created, there was much more to the character that needed to be revealed. As the series neared its conclusion, Agnes revealed herself as Agatha Harkness, a witch character from Marvel comics with strong connections to Wanda Maximoff. By the end of the series, Agatha's plot to steal Wanda's magic has been foiled and the Scarlet Witch chooses to cast a spell on her nemesis that mind warped her into living out her life as Agnes.

WandaVision Agatha

WandaVision served as the first MCU series to debut on Disney Plus and the first project of Phase 4 after a lot of reshuffling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show was an ambitious story of Wanda and Vision finding happiness inside a new reality, with each episode resembling a different classic sitcom. The show went on to receive critical acclaim and 23 Emmy nominations, including one for Hahn for best supporting actress in a limited series. Agatha was also at the center of the catchy theme song "Agatha All Along", which became a surprise hit.

While fans suspected that Agatha would certainly return to the MCU before long in some capacity, few predicted she would be headlining her own spinoff series on Disney Plus. Hahn is such a talented comedic and dramatic actor that it will be great to see her at the center of a big Marvel Studios production that could be a platform for her versatility. It will also be interesting to see what direction the show will go in, as there are a lot of possibilities. It could begin with her freeing herself from the trance Wanda trapped her in at the end of WandaVision and possibly show her on a redemptive path.

Of course, there was also a brief glimpse of her backstory in which she was shown during the Salem Witch Trials. This kind of prequel story would likely be the most interesting way to explore her character and might allow for a horror element. Whatever the direction, it is certainly exciting to see such an interesting character making her return to the MCU.
