WandaVision enchanted audiences for a number of reasons, but an original song featured in the Marvel Studios and Disney Plus series arguably stood out. Now, to the delight of MCU fans, "Agatha All Along" from episode seven of WandaVision has been nominated for the "Best Song Written For Visual Media" Grammy Award.
"Agatha All Along" is a song performed in WandaVision by Agatha Harkness actress Kathryn Hahn, who will return for an Agatha Harkness spinoff series. The song was intentionally modeled after the opening numbers of sitcoms like The Addams's Family. Interestingly, Hahn recorded her vocal performance for the song over a Zoom call due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The song proved to be a hit after the success of WandaVision, peaking at first place on iTunes' Soundtrack chart and fifth place on iTunes' Top 100 Singles chart. Now, "Agatha All Along" has been nominated for "Best Song Written For Visual Media" alongside five other nominees: "All Eyes On Me" (Bo Burnham's Netflix special Inside), "All I Know So Far" (P!NK: All I Know So Far), "Fight For You" (Judas and the Black Messiah), "Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)" (Respect), and "Speak Now" (One Night in Miami...). WandaVision also shares the distinction of being the first Grammy-nominated Disney Plus show along with another hit series. Season two of The Mandalorian has been nominated in the "Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media" category.
While this is the first Grammy nomination for a Disney Plus series inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the nomination follows a fruitful history of nods for MCU films in the three "Music for Visual Media" categories. Previously nominated MCU films include Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy (both the first film and Vol. 2), Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Black Panther, especially, had extraordinary Grammy's success, with its soundtrack receiving nominations in several categories including Record, Song, and Album Of The Year.
This year's Grammy nominations were given to prominent artists like Jon Batiste, Doja Cat, and Olivia Rodrigo. It is less common, however, for music from movies and television series based on superhero comics to be nominated for Grammy awards. So, "Agatha All Along" is perhaps one of the most exciting nominations in the Visual Media categories since thatgamecompany's influential indie game Journey was nominated in the Score Soundtrack category in the 2013 Grammy awards. Nevertheless, MCU fans are surely celebrating the continued success of WandaVision across major awards bodies.
