Every Walking Dead Game, Ranked

The popular Walking Dead franchise has spawned multiple video games, most of which represent a mixed bag in terms of quality.

Each decision will drastically change the course of the story, and it can easily lead to a character meeting an early demise later on in the game, or even becoming a villain, depending on the player's choices. Considering just how impactful these are, it can make it incredibly difficult to pick one action over the other, but the choices listed below are without a doubt the most grueling ones that players will encounter during their playthrough.

1 Prisoner Andrew

Act 3: Kill The Dead

Daryl and Rick aiming guns at Andrew

Once the gang finally reaches the prison by the mid-point of the game, they will encounter a prisoner going by the name of Andrew, and he's not too happy that Rick and the others have decided to step on his turf. Andrew explains that he has nowhere else to go, but Carol immediately advises Rick that they should send him out to fend for himself, since he's too big of a risk, considering he could turn on them at any moment.

The truth is, the player has no idea why exactly Andrew was imprisoned in the first place, and since they've just met him, there's no indication as to how dangerous he is as an individual. It's a surprisingly difficult decision that can have some major implications for the characters once all hell starts breaking loose in the prison a little later on.

2 The Medical Equipment

Act 2: Survival Of The Fittest

Shane choosing between saving Beth or the medical equipment

After Carl suffers a nasty injury, Shane and a partner of the player's choosing must venture outside of the farm to try and find some medical equipment, which they thankfully do, but they are soon chased down by a giant horde of flesh-hungry Walkers. Just as they are about to escape, Shane's partner trips and begs for him to save them, but on the other hand, the medical supplies have also been thrown on the floor and will be completely ripped to shreds if they aren't retrieved.

The Walking Dead: 10 Characters With The Most Character Development

In a zombie-infested world, evolution is key. The Walking Dead's characters are constantly changing, but which ones have had the most development?

This is a brutally hard choice that will end in a character's death one way or the other, leaving a lot of blood on Shane's hands no matter what decision is made. Saving Carl was always the priority, especially for Shane, who has grown quite close to him by this point, but letting one of Hershel's daughters die will lead to a lot of underlying tension within the camp, especially since Shane will also lie about the fact that he had no choice of saving them once he gets back.

3 The Governor's Daughter

Act 4: Woodbury

Governor pleading Michonne not to kill his zombified daughter

The Governor may initially come off as a pretty genuine and honest man just looking out for his Woodbury citizens, but it's soon discovered that he's hiding more than a few dark and unsettling secrets. After snooping around Woodbury, Michonne eventually finds the Governor's zombie daughter who has been locked away in his cellar. It's an extremely surreal and creepy revelation, but the player will need to choose whether they kill or spare her after the Governor barges into the room.

It's inhumane what he has decided to do to his daughter, and since there's no known cure in The Walking Dead universe, one can only imagine how long he would have kept her sealed away. Michonne had only just arrived in Woodbury by this time, so killing the zombie would also potentially shake the boat a little too much and ruin the relationship formed between her and the Governor. The decision has a huge impact on who becomes the primary villain at the end of the game, so making the wrong choice can prove to be fatal for the player later.

4 Hostage Situation

Act 5: Fear The Living

Glenn and Michonne being held hostage by the Governor

The Walking Dead: Destinies does a very good job at portraying the dark and menacing personality possessed by the Governor, a man who isn't afraid to push the boundaries to try and force Rock and his crew to surrender. However, one big difference between the game and the show is during the Governor's invasion of the prison. He still has a massive tank and a countless number of goons around him, but rather than having Michonne and Hershel as his captives, Hershel is now replaced by Glenn.

The Walking Dead: 10 Underrated Side-Characters

Everyone watching The Walking Dead knows Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes but there are some fantastic side characters that deserve more attention.

Glenn has been well-established as a beloved part of the gang up to this point, but fans of the show will know exactly how important Michonne becomes to the story after this point, so it results in an extremely intense and difficult decision. This choice also has quite a big effect on the ending, and will also lead to some unique dialogue right after, so it's worth taking the time to choose carefully who gets to speak on Rick's behalf.

5 Killing Shane Or Rick

Act 2: Survival Of The Fittest

Shane aiming a gun at Rick

Shane killing Rick at the end of Season 2 is one of those "What if" scenarios that has long been in the minds of longtime fans. While Shane came across as far too ruthless by the time that he was killed in the show, there's no denying that it would have been fascinating to see how he would have handled the likes of the Governor and the soldiers of Woodbury if he made it that far. The good news is that fans now have the opportunity to make this a reality by deciding to kill Rick once Shane lures him out of the farm.

This is by far the most impactful decision that the player will be forced to make, but it's certainly not an easy one. Rick may not be the most competent leader at times, but he's also proven that he cares deeply for those around him and will go to great lengths to protect the group. He's therefore a pretty reliable protagonist who can stay level-headed when he needs to, but Shane is a lot more no-nonsense, which could also be an advantage when facing down enemy groups. Rick and Shane will also treat other members of the group very differently, which can even be the deciding factor between life and death down the line.
