Highlights

  • The writers' strike caused delays for Marvel Studios, forcing them to halt production on projects like Vision Quest and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
  • Vision Quest has been removed from the writers' WGA profiles, raising speculation about whether the series will get new writers or be canceled.
  • The upcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos has been renamed Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, while Vision Quest's release remains uncertain. Marvel Studios may be prioritizing quality over quantity with their projects.

Marvel Studios' Vision TV series, Vision Quest, is seemingly changing while the MCU's Agatha Harkness spinoff's new title looks official.

The writers' strike went on for nearly 150 days, and during that time, movies and shows that were still working on a script had to halt production. This severely hurts companies like Marvel Studios, which have a long list of MCU projects that need to be released in a particular order and rewritten constantly to avoid contradicting each other. Marvel Studios delayed multiple projects, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

Scarlet Witch Updates revealed Vision Quest creator Jac Schaeffer has removed the project from their WGA profile. Other writers on the project have also removed it from their WGA profile. It is unclear whether this means that the series will get new writers or if it is being shelved. It wouldn't be surprising if the series is canceled, as Disney CEO Bob Iger recently discussed putting less Marvel content on Disney Plus because it is "diluting focus."

Additionally, Scarlet Witch Updates pointed out that the same profiles have changed the name of the upcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Vision Quest and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries are spin-offs/sequel series to the first Disney Plus Marvel series, WandaVision. WandaVision premiered in January of 2021, and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries won’t be released until 2024, while Vision Quest's release looks questionable.

It was probably a good decision for Disney to shelve Vision Quest, even though it may upset some fans. Films like The Marvels have too many projects that fans need to watch to the point it feels like homework to understand what is going on. Additionally, it has felt like Marvel Studios has taken the quantity over quality approach with their recent projects, with Ant-man: Quantumania and Secret Invasion being some of the most poorly received MCU projects.

Sadly, fans who want to see some more screen time for their favorite characters or comic book stories won’t get them if Marvel Studios decides to shelve upcoming projects like Vision Quest. Hopefully, Marvel can find a balance to give fans the movies and shows they want to see in the quality they deserve.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is expected to premiere on Disney Plus in late 2024.
