Yesterday, PlayStation announced which games would be free to claim on PS Plus starting June 1, with the lineup including EA Motive's Star Wars Squadrons and Operation: Tango. The final addition to the trio was the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, which is a PlayStation 4 remaster of 2012's Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.

For those wanting to see exactly how the revamped fighting game distances itself from its predecessor, SEGA has released a new trailer highlighting some of the major visual overhauls coming to the classic title. Overall, it looks to have significantly changed several of the original's stages and characters, cleaning up the presentation and offering more detail.

The footage opens with a look at some of the enhanced character designs, showing Akira Yuki training in a dojo, Pai Chan pulling off some aerial moves, and Jeffry McWild psyching himself up for a fight. The trailer shows off a clearer look at how the designs have changed later into the footage, offering a glimpse at Yuki before and after the PlayStation 4 upgrade. It's clear the Virtua Fighter 5 character been given a significant facelift, with more lifelike eyes, detailed facial features, and the presence of smaller touches, like sweat and veins.

The stages Virtua Fighter 5's characters will do battle over have also been vastly improved, with the Palace arena getting a similar comparison of its appearance before and after the enhancements. SEGA has evidently made a lot of effort to overhaul the look of the stage, improving its lighting and textures as well as adding new elements to the background. However, it isn't the only stage to get the remaster treatment, with the Deep Mountain arena getting a slightly toned-down look compared to the original's neon-lit counterpart and the Shrine adding more detail to its serene backdrop.

The rest of the trailer shows the most important part of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, focusing on the hard-hitting battles players will be able to experience throughout their time with the game. Plenty of fighters get their time to shine during the footage, with Goh hitting Jacky with a brutal slam, Shun landing a devastating combo on T-Arashi, and Eileen using the Ruins stage's walls to land a huge kick on El Blaze.

It's shaping up to be the ultimate version of Virtua Fighter 5, providing plenty of visual enhancements for long-time fans to enjoy. The game is slated to launch on PlayStation 4 the day it hits PS Plus, offering subscribers the chance to get stuck into the remastered experience for no additional cost.

Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown is slated to launch on June 1 for PlayStation 4.
