Vinland Saga Season 2 continues to surpass the expectations of the fans with its storytelling. The first cour of the anime was highly praised in the anime community, and needless to say, it made Vinland Saga one of the front-runners for the anime of the year. With the second cour already starting, fans will see the pinnacle of storytelling.
The second cour will be fast-paced, and it will have more action than the first one. There are still some characters who are making their way into the fray, and one such character is Gardar. This specific character was introduced in recent episodes, and it seems like he is going to play an important role in the story. Due to the limited amount of screen time, every fan wants to know who Gardar is.
The Unlucky Husband
The first person to call the muscular man by his name was Arnheid. When she saw Gardar on the horse, she couldn't help but call out his name. This was the first hint that there might be a connection between the two. As the story progressed further, it became clear that Arnheid and Gardar knew each other, and in fact, they used to be husband and wife. When Arnheid was taken from her village, Gardar was busy fighting a war along with the other men. Gardar was eventually turned into a slave, and he remained one until he decided to run away.
Gardar killed Lizard in order to get away safely. This put the entire farm on high alert, and they started looking for the runaway slave. As Arnheid called out to Gardar, he stopped and looked at his wife. But before he could be reunited with her, Snake and two other guests showed up. Snake grabbed Arnheid and entrusted her to one of the guests. Gardar became extremely furious that they were trying to spoil their possible reunion. Gardar charged toward Snake, but the latter expertly slashed the horse carrying the runaway slave. Despite losing his horse, Gardar was still willing to fight Snake. He tried attacking Snake, but he couldn't land a single hit on him. After gauging the situation, Snake deduced that Gardar was injured. So he used the back of his sword to bring the slave to his knees. Snake then ordered the other guests to take Gardar away and lock him up for now.
Will They Have A Happy Ending?
From the flashbacks, it is clear that Arnheid and Gardar used to be happy together. They even had a son, whom they raised with all their love. It seems that fate has given the two another opportunity to be together, but the odds of them reuniting still hang in the balance. The only way they can have a happy ending is if they receive support from Thorfinn and Einar.
Einar has feelings for Arnheid, but he prioritizes her happiness over his own, as evidenced by the fact that he was ready to attack Snake to save Gardar. There is a strong possibility that Einar will try to help Arnheid in some other way so that she can be reunited with her husband. The couple will get a chance once Canute and his army arrive at Ketil's farm. It has already been confirmed that the king wants to take over Ketil's farm and use it for his benefit.
Considering Canute's personality, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. So, there will be chaos on Ketil's farm, and all capable fighters will be busy defending it from Canute's forces. This will be a golden window of opportunity for Arnheid to try and free her husband and run away with him. However, this will only work if Gardar isn't killed by Ketil, and he doesn't succumb to his injuries.
