Each class will provide players with a head start in a certain play style, relating to what weapon they choose to wield. Players can choose to spring into an aggressive group of enemies, or conjure up powerful spells and watching the magic happen. Each class has a distinct set of skills that determine what kind of combat will make up the game.

5 Thor – Two-Handed Weapons

Hammer Strike, Thor Build

Using Thor's build will take players down the heavy-handed path, making big swings that deal big damage. This class is meant for those that like to get stuck right in the middle of the action. There won't be many enemies that can last more than a few hits.

Multi-classing and switching between a god with more ranged attacks, such as Skathi, will be beneficial.. There are some enemies that players can't just tank through and take out with heavy swings from Thor's build. The very first boss in the game us one such foe. With such a heavy tilt towards the melee side of combat, it's wise to balance out options when players run into a tank.

Thor's class is one of the most popular choices for a reason. It doesn't get more satisfying than lunging into the centre of a mob and dealing big damage with a mighty swing. However, this will require some good positioning if things don't go according to plan. Those big attacks can leave the player wide open on the other side.

4 Tyr – One-Handed Weapons

Gods playstyle

Walking the line between offense and defense, Tyr's build is a perfect fir for players who like to have their options open throughout the fight. Never leaving too much of a gap in defense, melee combat is measured and kept at an even pace.

The abilities that come with this build often focus around 360 degree attacks. This means that Tyr often has much better range than the other gods. Playing with the idea of using defense as an attack, these skills will both push enemies out of the player's immediate area and damage them at the same time.

The class also comes with some big damage at range. Players can propel big weapons that take down even high level enemies. Most action will be in close range, but players will always have the option of getting some space to breathe, giving this build a uniquely relaxing feel compared to the other classes.

3 Loki – Dual Wielding

Ranged Weapon Gameplay

Much like the god himself, Loki's play style is revolved around speed and poisoning. Revolving around dual wielding one-handed weapons, this build makes it easy to land many hits in a short burst. Dealing damage and poisoning enemies before getting out of harm's way is the best melee strategy.

Almost every ability in Loki's skill tree is meant for either powerful long range attacks, or covering ground so fast that the enemy has no chance to counter. For example, the Weapon Dancer ability teleports players from enemy to enemy, dealing massive damage along the way.

To get the most out of this build, players will have to play at a high pace and keep their wits about them. Speed is key when playing this class. And remember, even if the initial attack doesn't kill the enemy, the poison effect that lingers after will take them out.

2 Skathi – Bow

Vikings, wolves Of Midgard

As players might expect from any bow-based combat, they don't want to be too close to the action. However, this isn't because the Skathi's build doesn't do massive damage. The mechanics just get a little awkward at close range, especially when attacks are coming from multiple angles.

Surprisingly, this build is one of the biggest damage dealers in the game. It features some great AOE attacks that erase groups very quickly. Positioning will be an important aspect of battle, as lining up enemies for the power shots can hit all oncoming attackers.

Skills range from raining down arrows and hitting an entire area, to firing one powerful shot that travels through an entire line. Skathi's build is definitely one that players should consider in their main setup. Complimenting melee classes like Loki and Thor, it's a hard class to beat.

1 Odin – Staff

Wolves of midgard Combat

Odin's class that feels the most god-like, focusing around magic abilities that deal big damage and come with great range. Players will have to be a bit more tactical in their use of the abilities, as they differ greatly. This makes the Odin build a strong but frustrating class for most.

A magical jack of all trades, Odin's skills can hit from a great distance or deliver close range attacks that cover all angles. While this sounds like a great combination, it will take some getting used to. Players need to learn slick combinations before they move up to the higher levels.

Using the staff in melee combat is secondary to the varied arsenal. It often takes a back seat to the powerful blasts at the player's disposal. Even with a chain attack that bounces off multiple enemies and takes down swarms, the trick is knowing when to use each ability effectively.
