Today, Game ZXC’s weekly recap takes a look at some of the most notable headlines from the past week: a cinematic trailer reveals Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Grand Theft Auto 6 has a release window in 2025 locked down, and Helldivers 2 players failed at their second attempt to earn a particular stratagem via a major order. All that and more in this week’s roundup of games industry news.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Will Allegedly Have Battle Passes

A new rumor suggests that Ubisoft's upcoming single-player title, Assassin's Creed Shadows, will feature a battle pass system.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Revealed via Cinematic Trailer

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is revealed with a cinematic trailer depicting protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. The Japan-set Assassin’s Creed title is scheduled to release on November 15, 2024. On the same day as this reveal, Ubisoft also quietly canceled The Division: Heartland.

Helldivers 2’s Latest Major Order Ends in Failure

Helldivers 2 puts out major orders on a frequent basis and with time limits lasting a few days. Unfortunately, it seems that cutting down 2 billion Automatons was too much to ask of players since this Helldivers 2 major order failed before they could achieve it. Ironically, accomplishing this major order would have awarded players with the MD-17 Anti-Tank Missiles, which is the stratagem players lost out on after Penta and its RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher had won in that divisive major order.

GTA 6’s Release Window Narrowed Down

It was always known that Rockstar’s next game would arrive in 2025. Now, it seems players will be waiting a bit longer than they might have hoped as it was confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2025, meaning it’ll be released near the end of next year and over a full year from today.

Remedy Teasing Summer Game Fest Appearance

Summer Game Fest 2024 is expected to feature announcements and reveals as always. A social media post from Summer Game Fest’s Geoff Keighley remarking about how it was only three weeks away seemed to elicit a response from Sam Lake, who replied with the wide-eye emoji and therefore may be teasing something from Remedy at Summer Game Fest—something related to its anticipated Alan Wake 2 DLC, perhaps.

Ghost of Tsushima Lands on PC and Crushes PlayStation First-Party Player Count

Today, Ghost of Tsushima passed 75,000 concurrent Steam players after having only been released on PC on May 16. In doing so, it was able to eclipse the record that was previously held by God of War’s own PC port, though neither game has yet to achieve the player count Helldivers 2 has amassed on the platform.

Features

Less may sometimes be more and that’s arguably the case with Moon’s Ori series as it compares to the studio’s early access action-RPG No Rest for the Wicked. It’s hard to say what the game will look like when it’s reached a degree of quality and content sufficient for a 1.0 launch, but at the moment it needs to juggle too many systems and features that debatably fail to all come together as coherently as they hopefully will in the future.

Movies & TV

A live-action series centered around Spider-Man’s black-and-white Noir variant has been announced with Nicolas Cage reprising his role. Such a series has all the makings of being special, but how the character translates to live-action will be make or break for it.

Guides

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is only a couple of days out now, which can be easy to overlook considering how little it’s been marketed in the weeks before. Thankfully, the sequel’s release times have been confirmed for anyone waiting patiently and attentively for it to arrive.

Tons of energetic and emergent indies have been hitting the scene lately. One of the latest, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, indulges in intricate puzzles and plays like “classic Resident Evil meets Professor Layton.”
