Released in 2014, Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation is not only still regarded as a terrifying horror game, but also one of the greatest love letters to Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 film. On top of that, it represents a milestone in advanced artificial intelligence, with the titular alien creature being more of a clever hunter than a video game antagonist that's predictable. Given its reputation, fans have been hoping for a sequel for some time now, and while it doesn't seem likely one will emerge, an independent team has done the next best thing.
The YouTube channel Enfant Terrible has released a short video which shows what a possible follow-up to Alien: Isolation could look like when done in Unreal Engine 5. With all the recognizable assets from the long-running franchise, including a digitized rendition of Ripley herself, it imagines a highly detailed new installment that takes place in this sci-fi/horror universe. The fact that it's done in this particular engine as well makes it look even more impressive. Sadly, this is just a concept trailer and does not represent a sequel to the 2014 game, official or otherwise.
The channel itself is known for creating a number of these fan trailers. Not long ago, Enfant Terrible also showed what a potential Bloodborne 2 could look like in Unreal Engine 5. Again, it offers a brief but tantalizing tease for something that will unfortunately probably not emerge. It also shows the power of UE5, which launched earlier this year and is considered one of the most powerful game development tools in the world. It's currently being used to make the likes of Redfall, the new Witcher game, and the next Layers of Fear entry.
As for the game itself, many would say that there is definitely a case to be made for an Alien: Isolation 2. The fact that the 2014 release struck such a chord with both horror fans and lovers of the Alien films in general suggests there is potential for another game, especially given that video game adaptations of the films tend not to be very well received, with 2013's Aliens: Colonial Marines being one of the more notorious examples.
Sadly, with Creative Assembly now working on its next game, a sci-fi multiplayer shooter called Hyenas, hopes of more from Amanda Ripley or anyone from that universe are likely fading. This doesn't mean that a sequel won't happen, especially as fans are keen for one, but it seems it could be a long time coming, if it even manifests at all.
