  • The success of Fantastic Four is crucial for the MCU's Phase 6, which includes several other highly anticipated films.

Vanessa Kirby commented on recent speculation that she's joining the Fantastic Four MCU reboot. Kirby is heavily rumored to be a favorite for the role of Sue Storm, a.k.a, The Invisible Woman.

Rumors of Kirby playing Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot have circulated throughout the past year, with Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn allegedly a contender to play the character's younger brother Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch. Slated for a 2025 release, Fantastic Four production details have remained few and far between, leading to ever-increasing fan speculation regarding the hyped project.

During a red-carpet interview uploaded by Variety's Elsa Keslassy, Kirby responded to questions regarding her potential involvement in Fantastic Four. While she did not give a straight answer, her response was telling. Instead of denying her involvement, she gave a vague but positive response. "Oh, I don't know! You'll have to ask them ... I would be very honored to join," she said.

Kirby's response could mean one of two things. Either Kirby is already cast in the film but has to remain quiet due to a non-disclosure agreement or a simple request from the studio, or she's still in the running for the role, in which case she's probably one of the favorites. If she is no longer attached to Fantastic Four, she would have been free to kindly decline to answer the interviewer's questions about her involvement.

Other rumors surrounding the Fantastic Four reboot involve its villains, who leakers claimed will be Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Recently, rumors claimed a female actor would play Galactus' herald. This herald could be the Silver Surfer character or another servant of the all-powerful villain. Despite actor John Krasinski's surprise appearance as Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Krasinski denied involvement in the 2025 film.

Announced as the first film of the MCU's phase 6, Fantastic Four will have much riding on its shoulders come 2025. Followed by movies Thunderbolts and Blade, then concluding with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, phase 6 will see the Fantastic Four heroes almost certainly playing a major role in its crescendo. Following the MCU's recent box office struggles with The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the studio hopes to rebound with phase 5's concluding films, Deadpool 3 and Captain America: Brave New World. With these two reliable projects on the horizon, the studio hopes to regain momentum heading into the latter half of the 2020s, and it has good reason to feel confident despite recent disappointments.

Fantastic Four releases in theaters on May 2, 2025.
