Fans of this year's Vampyr still stricken with bloodlust, a new fix is on the way. The 2018 vampire adventure game is being made into a TV series by the studio behind Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, and the still in development Life is Strange TV series.

When Dontnod's Vampyr released in June, reviews generally lauded the game's atmosphere, character development, and storytelling, while common criticisms included cumbersome mechanics, lengthy load times, and generally poor technical performance. Game ZXC's review on Xbox One cited a number of graphics and performance flaws that hindered the experience considerably. Fortunately, a TV series that draws from Vampyr's compelling story and immersive atmosphere without inheriting the flaws of its video game DNA could prove a successful formula.

Vampyr publisher Focus Home Interactive announced today that Fox21 has acquired the rights to develop a Vampyr TV show. The series will be jointly developed by Wonderland Sound & Vision and DJ2 Entertainment, the latter of which is also working on a show based on Dontnod's Life Is Strange. The development firm has a history of adapting video games as TV shows and films, with the forthcoming Sonic the Hedgehog feature-length film being another of its recent endeavors. Wonderland Sound & Vision is best known for its work in TV with The O.C. and Supernatural, and in film for works such as Terminator Salvation and The Babysitter.

Vampyr tells the story of a doctor who mysteriously wakes up as a vampire in a disease-ravaged 1918 London. His quest to discover a cure for the Spanish Flu, which is leaving corpses to expire in the street, is hindered only by his newfound desire to feast on the victims' blood. The moral conflict as described sits at the center of Vampyr's narrative and will likely be the TV series' main focus. Though, at this point in the development process, it's far too early to speculate beyond that.

“We believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show,” says Dontnod CEO Oskar Guilbert. “This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with ‘Vampyr’s’ rich, deep story. We cannot wait to see how the talented team at Fox21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television.”

Vampyr is out now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
