During its Early Access release on Steam, Vampire Survivors quickly became a breakout hit for developer poncle. The developer continued to add content through its roadmap before ultimately launching the game in full back in October. The momentum Vampire Survivors managed to capture helped it score big with critics and fans as well as get nominated for Best Debut Indie title at the 2022 Game Awards.
As a game that's simply to understand but tough to master, Vampire Survivors gives players tons of content to unlock. Better yet, most of the content, which includes new spells and characters, can be unlocked simply by playing and completing certain actions. New maps can be unlocked by reaching a certain player level, new characters can be added to the already expansive roster by finding an item, while new abilities and weapons can be unlocked through finding hidden items or destroying certain things in levels.
While the launch version of Vampire Survivors is already full of content that can keep players coming back time and time again, many were surprised when poncle announced a DLC expansion known as Legacy of the Moonspell. The DLC includes a new map, new weapons, as well as 8 characters that can be unlocked through play. Once such character, McCoy-Oni, can only be added to the playable roster once they're unlocked.
How to Unlock McCoy-Oni
Thankfully, the process to unlock McCoy-Oni in Vampire Survivors is a fairly straightforward one, not nearly as time-consuming as some of the others. The only pre-requisite that players will need to have first is Babi-Onna as her starting weapon, the Mirage Robe, is a key component in this process. During a run with Babi-Onna, players will need to continue upgrading the Mirage Robe to get it to level 8, while also making sure to obtain and upgrade the Attractorb to level 8 as well. The two will combine into a new weapon called J'Odore. Once the run ends, players will unlock McCoy-Oni to use.
Players can also unlock the Mirage Robe weapon by surviving for 15 minutes using Babi-Onna on any map, adding it to the overall drop pool for all characters.
Alternatively, players can obtain the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane in The Bone Zone area of the Milky Way map. This is a drop after defeating the Sketamari, and allows the player to enter codes to unlock content from the Secrets menu. For those who have the item and have yet to unlock McCoy-Oni, they can enter the phrase "IonicoIonico."
McCoy-Oni Weapon and Abilities
Unlocking McCoy-Oni is just the first part. In order to make the badger-like creature playable, players will need to spend a hefty portion of gold. Once added to the main roster, McCoy-Oni comes with the 108 Bocce weapon, which is essentially a rotating ring of beads that protects the character like the King Bible and deals bonus damage to any enemies that get too close.
It also comes with a max health of 108, +1 to the Armor stat, as well as 20% bonus to growth. Its passive ability increases the area of effect at fixed intervals.
