The Legacy of the Moonspell expansion for Vampire Survivors is now available. This inexpensive DLC offering increases the roster of playable characters by eight. All the Moonspell characters are fun to try for a run, but some are clearly better than others. This list will separate the play-once characters from the Red Death slayers.

Many of the Moonspell characters have unique abilities or properties that set them apart from the characters in the main game. This list is ranked in terms of overall power level and how easy the game is when using a character. Starting weapon(s), passive bonuses and penalties, and special abilities are the primary ranking criteria.

8 Babi-Onna

  • +10 Reroll

The only Legacy of the Moonspell character most Vampire Survivors players would consider low-tier is Babi-Oni. She doesn't get much in the way of passive bonuses. Her starting weapon, Mirage Robe, is arguably the worst of the DLC. Babi-Oni's one saving grace is her unique special ability.

Weapon cooldown is ignored with Babi-Oni. Instead, weapons activate at set intervals while she is moving. The higher the player can get her Move Speed, the shorter the interval between weapon activations. The drawback is that while stationary, her weapons cease activating, and only one weapon activates at a time when moving.

7 McCoy-Oni

McCoy-Oni in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • +1 Armor
  • +20% Growth

McCoy-Oni is a gimmick character. That's not a bad thing, at least not in this case. The Area of McCoy-Oni's weapons changes at set intervals. This works like the Boogaloo of Illusions arcana, but there isn't a chance for a negative to Area. The interval is also much shorter than the Boogaloo of Illusions.

The best thing about McCoy-Oni is the starting weapon, 108 Bocce. This weapon sends out balls that continuously orbit the character. This effectively shields the user from enemy attacks while delivering significant damage. Good weapons to use with McCoy-Oni are the Soul Eater, Bloody Tear, and Death Spiral.

6 Menya Moonspell

Menya in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • -10% Cooldown
  • +10% Might
  • +8 Banish

Menya is a good character with a fun special ability. After defeating a set number of enemies, Menya becomes invulnerable, as well as gaining +200% Might, -20% Cooldown, +50% Curse. This effect lasts for 30 seconds, except in Hurry Mode, where it lasts 60 seconds.

Menya's starting weapon is the Four Seasons. This weapon is like Menya - good, but not great. Four Seasons requires the player to use four of the six passive items slots in order to get the most out of the weapon. The Spinach and Candelabrador are needed to evolve Four Seasons into Godai Shuffle. Since the weapon's damage scales with Amount and Duration, the players also need to get the Spellbinder and Duplicator.

5 Megalo Syuuto Moonspell

Megalo Syuuto in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • +2 Armor
  • +50%Curse
  • +50% Greed
  • +50% Might
  • +20% Move Speed

Megalo Syuuto is a beast of a character. As if the passive bonuses weren't enough, he also gets a +1% to Might every level. This special ability doesn't have a maximum either, so with the Spinach and Torrona's Box passive items, it's possible to deal three times normal damage. A build designed to exploit critical hits can make short work of even bosses.

The only real negative to using Megalo Syuutois is his starting weapon, the Night Sword. This weapon is excellent...as long as it's not evolved. Once evolved into Muramasa, this weapon damages the wielder. This requires a healing-focused build if the player wants Megalo Syuuto to survive.

4 Miang Moonspell

  • 1.0 Recovery
  • +20% Projectile Speed

Miang is one of the best overall characters in Vampire Survivors. Her starting weapon is the Silver Wind. This weapon starts strong, heals the user, and when evolved into Festive Winds, becomes a top-tier weapon. Another reason for the high ranking is that Miang heals incredibly fast, gains bonus healing from all sources (including Silver Wind), and her health can exceed her maximum health.

With two or three weapons that heal the wielder, along with the Pummarola and Metaglio Left passive items, Miang is able to heal at the speed of Deadpool. This makes Miang one of the best characters to use if the goal is defeating Red Death at the end of the stage.

3 Syuuto Moonspell

Syuuto in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • -30% Area
  • +2 Armor
  • +50% Curse
  • +50% Might
  • -20% Move Speed

Even with Syuuto's mixed bag of passive bonuses and penalties, he still ranks as one of the best characters in Legacy of the Moonspell. This is mainly due to his starting weapons, the Summon Night and Night Sword. The Night Sword is a hidden weapon with Syuuto, so it doesn't occupy a weapon slot.

Summon Night is perhaps the best weapon in Vampire Survivors. It's a top-tier weapon alongside Phieraggi, Gorgeous Moon, and La Borra. When fully leveled, this weapon can easily keep all but the strongest bosses far away from the character. It's crazy how strong Summon Night becomes when it's evolved into Echo Night.

2 Gav'Et-Oni

GavEt-Oni in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • +20% Move Speed

Gav'Et-Oni's special ability is the sole reason for such a high ranking. Weapons used by this character gain an extra projectile for every 20 levels, to a maximum of +4 projectiles. This allows Gav'Et-Oni's weapons to have more projectiles than any other character, except for Ambrojoe, but his +10 bonus ends very quickly into a run.

With all bonuses and items that grant extra projectiles, Gav'Et-Oni can have an impressive +7 projectiles. This is only useful with some weapons - not all weapons scale with Amount. The weapons this does affect, however, are boosted to ridiculous levels. Vampire Survivors has been described as a reverse bullet hell shooter by some, and with this character, that label certainly applies. Gav'Et-Oni's starting weapon is the Mille Bolle Blu.

1 Megalo Menya Moonspell

Megalo Menya in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors
  • +100% Move Speed
  • +100% Might
  • -20% Cooldown Time
  • +108 Banish

The ranking of the characters on this list was done in terms of how powerful they are; passive bonuses, starting weapon(s), and special abilities are all factors that were considered. If fun-factor was considered, Megalo Menya would be ranked last. The reason for this is simple - this character cannot be damaged.

Without the fear of dying, this game is a little pointless. This character is great for trying out a new build, but only so far. Part of trying a new build is seeing how well the character survives. With Megalo Menya, surviving until the stage's time limit is practically guaranteed. Megalo Menya starts with the 108 Bocce weapon as a hidden weapon, allowing for seven weapons total.

Vampire Survivors is available now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Android, and iOS
