Many games have opted to include limited-time items and quests in patches this month with the upcoming spooky season. Valheim has added the craftable item Jack-O-Turnip to keep lonely Vikings company during the ghoulish Halloween season.

Valheim is a survival PVE game by Iron Gate Studio that lets gamers take on Odin’s rivals and bring order to the Norse world for which the game was named. However, the game isn’t merely taking down enemies. Players have a whole world to explore, and the game recently updated some of the crafting skills, weapons, and food buffs. This well-rounded open-world survival game also added a new craftable decoration, the Jack-O-Turnip.

Keeping with the agriculture and history of the area, the game lets you create Jack-O-Lanterns from turnips, which are historically what they were made of. A recent Twitter post by Valheimgame shows a Viking sitting at a table happily with his new turnip-head friend, a Jack-O-Turnip. These decorations can be made with Valheim's turnip seeds and a few materials by accessing the furniture tab close to your workbench. Once crafted, the new friend will need additional resin to remain lit, much like a torch.

Among the other hotfixes for Valheim, player's Vikings will have an easier time with combatting fulings now that the creatures will spread out and circle more. Due to player feedback, stamina costs for many melee weapons were also adjusted in the patch, including atgeirs, axes, maces, pickaxes, and swords.

It now takes a bit less stamina to swing these items, which could help many fans during combat. Fans will be happy with the nudge to the buffs provided by some foods, which was prompted by the communities response after the Hearth and Home update. This new patch has updated meals like minced meat, blood pudding, and boar jerky to increase both health and stamina values instead of just one or the other. Other foods, such as deer stew and bread, have had the duration of their benefits adjusted.

The Jack-O-Turnip is a cute nod to the season that has been well-received among fans. Players are excited to place their spooky turnips anywhere and everywhere they can throughout the Norse world. Iron Gates has not mentioned if this seasonal item is here to stay. Still, the Valheim community is voicing their hope that more seasonal items will be included in future updates.

Valheim is currently available for PC.
