As players begin exploring the harsh world of Valheim, they may obtain seeds of different varieties, and indeed it is possible to plant them. That said, fans will need to do quite a bit of preparatory work before they are able to plant seeds in Valheim, as they must first craft a specific tool. That tool is a Cultivator, and this guide will detail how to make it as well as exactly how to use it to turn seeds into edible items.
The first step to obtaining a Cultivator is to create a Smelter from 20 Stone and five Surtling Cores. For the uninitiated, the latter of these two ingredients can be found in the Burial Chambers that appear in the Black Forest biome after defeating Eikthyr, the game's first boss. To enter these Chambers, Valheim players will need to find tunnels that lead into the earth in the Black Forest, and the Surtling Cores appear on the top of certain sticks inside.
After creating a Smelter, fans should use it to turn copper ore into copper bars. Players will need six of these bars, along with some stone, coal, and wood, to craft a Forge, and they should place it near their Workbenches in Valheim when all of the materials have been gathered. They should then use this new crafting station to combine copper and tin into bronze, which will unlock the recipe for the Cultivator, and then create this farming tool from the requisite ingredients.
With the Cultivator in hand, players are now finally ready to plant seeds in Valheim, and the tool is used very much like a Hammer. Indeed, survival game fans should simply equip the item and right-click to bring up a menu outlining its functionalities. The first thing that players will see in this menu is the ability to Cultivate, and they should select that option and click on the ground to turn it into farmable land.
Fans should now open the Cultivator again, select the seeds that they want to plant, and then put them into the soil that they previously cultivated. Notably, players that want to plant a number of seeds should make sure to leave some space between them, or else they may not grow. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that seeds will not instantly turn into edible items once they have sown, and fans will need to wait a few days before they can harvest their crops in this Viking-themed game.
