Valheim's progression tasks players with entering a new biome, harvesting the unique materials within it, and crafting weapons and armor capable of tackling that area's boss. This formula continues to the new Mistlands update to Valheim that was recently brought to the game's Public Test Branch.

This time around, players gain a new type of forge to craft for the Mistlands: the Black Forge. This new type of crafting area is essential to those players looking to make any headway in the new and difficult biome. How to Craft a Black Forge in Valheim?

The recipe for crafting a Black Forge will come up when players have collected at least one example of each ingredient needed for this station. The Black Forge requires 10 Black Marble, 10 Yggdrasil Wood, and 5 Black Core, all of which can only be found in the Mistlands. Those looking for Black Marble need to find the Petrified Bones in this biome while Yggdrasil Wood can be harvested from the Yggdrasil Shoots that grow here. Black Cores, however, require players to track down the Infested Caves that act as challenging dungeons in the Mistlands.

With these three items in their inventory, players can use the Hammer Tool to craft the Black Forge within the range of a Workbench. At its base level, this forge boasts a ton of items that players can build with a mix of metals, drops from the new enemies, and materials from throughout the Valheim world. Of this list of items, players will note a new Carapace Armor Set of which each piece individually adds 32 to a player's armor set. On top of this, those looking for a new sword, the Mistwalker which emits a glow that will help disperse the mist in the Mistlands.

How to Upgrade the Black Forge in Valheim?

The Black Forge currently has just one upgrade and only a limited list of items that require it. This upgrade is the Black Forge Cooler, and it requires 5 Iron, 5 Copper, and 4 Black Marble. As with the Black Forge, all the required materials can be found in the Mistlands. The developers made sure to add ancient swords and helmets to this biome that can be struck with a pickaxe to drop metals typically associated with prior biomes. The primary reason behind upgrading the Black Forge is for upgrading the craftable items with a base version of this forge.

Valheim is available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
