For some of Valheim's enemies, the best approach is to maintain distance. Ranged combat mainly revolves around the game's different bows and, with the game's latest biome update, players have a new option: the Spine Snap. This spine-themed weapon can deal impressive pierce damage but requires a mix of different materials.

This bow changes the power rankings within its class in Valheim and can be quite useful for those looking to take out enemies from a distance. For those players looking to craft the Spine Snap, this guide is here to help.

How to Craft the Spine Snap in Valheim?

The recipe for the Spine Snap calls for 10 Fine Wood, 40 Bone Fragments, and 10 Refined Eitr. This mix of ingredients aren't particularly challenging to acquire but will bring players to a few different biomes. Players then need to go to their level 1 Black Forge, one of the new crafting stations brought to Valheim through the update, in order to craft this bow. As of this writing, this is the only traditional bow players can make at this crafting station.

The Spine Snap boasts the capacity to deal 72 Pierce damage and 5 Spirit damage, making it arguably the most powerful bow in the game. Similar to Valheim's Draugr Fang, it features a 1.5 parry bonus multiplier and a 3 backstabber bonus multiplier. Improving on that weapon, though, this bow has a higher knock back (25 versus 20).

Where to get the Ingredients for a Spine Snap?

The recipe tasks players with heading to either the Plains or Meadows biome and chop down Birch or Oak trees. One or two of these trees should drop enough Fine Wood for the crafting of this bow. Bone Fragments can be found all over Valheim but are most commonly found as drops from the Skeletons in the Black Forest. This bow requires plenty of these and players will likely need to clear a number of Burial Chambers in order to craft the Spine Snap.

The final ingredient is the most challenging to track down. Refined Eitr is produced by an Eitr Refinery, a new machine that requires both Sap and Soft Tissue in order to run. Sap can be taken out of the glowing roots found in the Mistlands by the Sap Extractor item while Soft Tissue can be most easily found within the skulls of Ancient Remains in the same area. Gathering Sap and Soft Tissue in the new Mistlands biome can be an extreme challenge, however, and players need to be on their guard.

Valheim is available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
