Valheim players looking to tackle the challenges of the Mistlands biome are going to need to upgrade their armor. This normal preparation for progressing into a new area is especially important with the amount of difficult new creatures present in the Mistlands. Those players jumping to Valheim's update on the public test branch of the game need to move on from Padded Armor.
For those Valheim players looking to stick with melee and ranged methods for dispatching enemies, the Mistlands offers a new armor set. This is the Carapace Armor, a set that takes from the creatures in this new biome to improve a player's defense. For those players looking to create this armor, this guide is here to help.
How to Craft the Carapace Armor Set?
The Carapace set functions similarly to other armor sets in Valheim in that it consists of three pieces: a helmet, a breastplate, and greaves. These each require four different ingredients, all of which can be found within the new Mistlands biome. Starting with the Carapace Helmet, players need to acquire 15 Carapace, 3 Scale Hides, 2 Mandibles, and 5 Refined Eitr. The Carapace Breastplate requires 20 Carapace, 3 Scale Hide, 5 Iron, and 10 Refined Eitr. The final piece, the Carapace Greaces, asks for 20 Carapace, 3 Scale Hide, 5 Iron, and 10 Refined Eitr. These all can be crafted at a level 1 Black Forge.
Carapace can be gathered from both Seekers and Seeker Soldiers, Mandibles are drops from Seeker Soldiers exclusively, and Scale Hide is a drop from the neutral animal from the Mistlands, the Hare. Refined Eitr is the produced by combing Sap and Soft Tissue at an Eitr Refinery. Sap can be harvested from Sap Extractors that were placed on a glowing Yggdrasil Roots and Soft Tissue can be harvested from the skulls of Petrified Bones. Scrap Iron can now be harvested from the Ancient Swords and Armor found in the Mistlands biome. This can then be brought to a Smelter to create the Iron needed for these items.
Carapace Armor Stats in Valheim
Combined, the Carapace armor is now the strongest armor set in Valheim, dethroning the Padded Armor Set. Instead of the 26 armor of each piece in that set, the Carapace items boast 32. Overall, a player with the lowest tier of Carapace Armor has an armor stat of 96. The only drawback with these items is a reduction in movement speed of 5 percent for both the Carapace Breastplate and Greaves. Combined they also weigh 23 of the game's units.
