Valheim's Mistlands update has brought in two forms of magic for players to enjoy: Elemental Magic and Blood Magic. These will both be an adjustment for those players that have been relying on ranged and melee weapons but add exciting new elements to the game. One of the more interesting of the Blood Magic options is the Dead Raiser, an item that can be used to summon protective skeletons.

As with most things in Valheim, however, using the Dead Raiser comes at a cost. For those players looking to craft this weapon and better understand its costs and benefits, this guide is here to help.

How to Craft a Dead Raiser in Valheim?

The Dead Raiser requires 20 Yggdrasil Wood, 10 Bone Fragments, 15 Refined Eitr, and 1 Rancid Remains Trophy. With these ingredients at the new Galdr Table in Valheim, players will be able to craft the basic version of the Dead Raiser. It has the appearance of a glowing skull and functions as a two-handed weapon with a block armor stat of 48 and a parry bonus multiplier of 1.5.

These ingredients are focused around the Mistlands biome and the Black Forest. Yggdrasil Wood can be harvested by a Black Metal Axe used against the Yggdrasil Shoots that grow in the former area. Refined Eitr is the product of placing Sap and Soft Tissue into an Eitr Refinery. Bone Fragments are drops by Skeletons which are often found in the Black Forest. The final item, a Rancid Remains Trophy, is an occasional drop by Rancid Remains, the green skeletons most commonly found in the Burial Chambers in the Black Forest.

How to Use the Dead Raiser in Valheim?

The Dead Raiser is activated through left-clicking and will summon a skeleton companion within moments. This comes at a cost to both health and Eitr, the magical resource brought through the Mistlands update. For an immediate cost of 100 Eitr and 40 percent health, a Skeleton will emerge from the ground nearby and protect the player from any nearby creature. The strength of this summon is determined by the Blood Magic skill level of the player, and it is important to note that these skeletons will not follow through a portal.

Players can increase the number of skeletons they can summon by one if they upgrade the Dead Raiser at the Galdr Table but need 10 Yggdrasil Wood, 4 Bone Fragments, and 2 Refined Eitr to do so. One of the better strategies for employing this device is to use the new Staff of Protection to encase both skeletons and the player in shields. This will give the player and its skeletons ample protection for a short period of time and better prepare them for the challenges in the new Mistlands biome.

Valheim is available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
