Players working their way through Valheim's new Mistlands biome have plenty with which to get accustomed. Aside from the challenging new enemies, there are new items and resources that play an important part in being able to mount the challenges found here. One of the more important of these additions to Valheim are the Black Cores.

These items play a vital role in the construction of three major devices and crafting stations that make managing the challenging Mistlands biome much more straightforward. For those players looking to track down these Black Cores and make use of them, this guide is here to help.

Where to Find Black Cores in Valheim?

Black Cores are only found within the dungeons of the Mistlands, known as the Infested Mines. These highly dangerous areas are spread throughout the Mistlands and will definitely be populated by Seekers and Ticks, and players need to properly equip themselves before entering. While exploring the Infested Mines, players should take note of white runes marking the entrances to secret treasure rooms. Aside from the large amounts of gold within these rooms (which will come in handy when players find Valheim's trader), it is here that players will find Black Cores atop posts.

How to Use Black Cores in Valheim?

The primary use for Black Cores is the construction of the three most important structures brought by the Mistlands update. These are the Black Forge, Gladr Table, and Eitr Refinery. These combine to give players access to everything they need to conquer the Mistlands and its powerful enemies. All told, players need to collect 15 Black Cores in order to construct these structures, which will likely require a trip to a few Infested Mines.

The first of these to unlock is the Black Forge, a place where players can make most of the update's new armor and traditional weaponry. This will be followed by the creation of the Eitr Refinery, which requires players to learn how to extract Sap from the roots within the Mistlands. The Eitr Refinery allows for the creation of Refined Eitr, a substance required for the creation of most of Valheim's new magical items, and opens up the Galdr Table. This final crafting station is where players can create new magical weapons and armor.

Valheim is available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
