Valheim is an online survival game where players are dropped into Midgard by Hugin with naught but their bare fists. As they progress they will find a variety of resources and unlock new technology. After battling Boars and Greylings with Stone Age weapons, players should soon be able to mine Copper and Tin to start crafting Bronze weapons and armor.

Bronze weapons come in a variety of forms in Valheim, from swords and maces that work hand in hand with the Bronze Buckler to two-handed weapons with ferocious swings. These are all great for the early stages of the game and players can improve the quality of every item at a forge before they find Iron.

7 Bronze Axe

Valheim Bronze Axe
  • Damage Type: 40 Slash
  • Crafting Materials: 4 Wood, 8 Bronze, 2 Leather Scraps

While the Bronze Axe isn't the best Bronze weapon in Valheim, it is a great all-around tool as its primary function is to cut down trees. It is perfect for dealing with nasty critters that try to interrupt an otherwise relaxing lumberjack session.

Even though players will want to upgrade to an Iron Axe when they get the chance, a fully upgraded Bronze Axe is almost as good, and will serve players just fine for the early stages of the game.

6 Bronze Buckler

Valheim Bronze Buckler
  • Block: 16
  • Crafting Materials: 4 Wood, 10 Bronze

Bucklers are the best shields in Valheim for parrying and turning away blades, but not great for blocking when compared with bigger shields. The Bronze Buckler is the first buckler to be unlocked, but due to the high quantity of Bronze required to forge it, players may want to prioritize other options first.

How much use players get out of the Bronze Buckler is down to their skill at parrying and how they take advantage of openings. Of course, it should be paired with another one-handed weapon like the Bronze Sword.

5 Bronze Spear

Valheim Bronze Spear
  • Damage Type: 35 Pierce
  • Crafting Materials: 5 Wood, 6 Bronze, 2 Deer Hide

The Bronze Spear is far from the best offensive Bronze weapon due to its single-target pierce damage, but it requires slightly less Bronze to forge than other options, so can be a great cheaper option when lacking resources.

As with all the spears in Valheim, players also have the option to throw the Bronze Spear as a javelin, which can come in handy when kills need to be secured from range. This also makes it a great option for hunting, especially as spears can be picked back up, unlike arrows.

4 Bronze Sword

Valheim Bronze Sword
  • Damage Type: 35 Slash
  • Crafting Materials: 2 Wood, 8 Bronze, 2 Leather Scraps

One of the best things about advancing from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age in Valheim, is finally being able to wield a sword for the first time. The Bronze Sword is a great all-around weapon for the early game with better durability than the Bronze Spear for example.

While it is far from the best sword in Valheim, with enough Copper and Tin mined, players can upgrade the Bronze Sword till it can compete with the Iron Sword, which is the next to be unlocked.

3 Bronze Mace

Valheim Bronze Mace
  • Damage Type: 35 Blunt
  • Crafting Materials: 4 Wood, 8 Bronze, 3 Leather Scraps

The Bronze Mace is a huge upgrade from the simple Club that players will wield as their first weapon. While it deals the same damage as the Bronze Sword and Bronze Spear, it knocks enemies back significantly further.

As with all the clubs and maces in Valheim the blunt force damage that the Bronze Mace deals is great against particular enemies like Bonemass for example. If players do opt to use this weapon for the Bonemass boss fight, it is recommended to fully upgrade it at the forge.

2 Bronze Atgeir

Valheim Bronze Atgeir
  • Damage Type: 45 Pierce
  • Crafting Materials: 10 Wood, 8 Bronze, 2 Leather Scraps

The Bronze Atgeir is the first polearm that players will unlock in Valheim and offers a unique way of slaying Greydwarves and Skeletons. It does a comparable amount of damage as the other Bronze weapons, but with a longer range.

As with the other Atgeirs available in the game, players will perform a large 360-degree sweep around them which is perfect when overwhelmed by multiple enemies at once.

1 Krom

Valheim Krom Sword
  • Damage Type: 150 Slash
  • Crafting Materials: 30 Iron, 20 Bronze, 5 Scale Hide

The two-handed sword Krom is the only Bronze weapon to be found in the later stages of the game and is made out of Iron too, as well as Scale Hide which can only be found in the Mistlands biome.

A Black Forge is also required to craft Krom, which is not only by far the best Bronze weapon, but also one of the best two-handed weapons in all of Valheim. With wide-reaching swings, players can take down multiple enemies at once. As it is one of the few late-game weapons not heavily inspired by fantasy, it may be preferred by those with a love for the historical side of the game.

Valheim is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
