Wood is an essential material in Valheim. Players will need a large amount of wood to craft items, build a home, and create a base. This is especially true in the first few hours of the game, as players will need to build a makeshift sleeping area, craft a weapon, and build a workbench.

There are several different types of wood survivors will need to collect as well. Farming wood can be a bore, however, gamers can use several tactics to get more wood and save time. With the methods in this guide, players will have all the wood they need in no time.

Forge An Axe

The easy-to-craft Stone and Flint axes work, but it will take a long time to gather enough wood using them. The Bronze Axe provides 2x the chop damage that the Stone Axe does, for example. Gamers need to have both a Forge and a Smelter to refine metal before they can create the upgraded axes. The Blackmetal Axe provides a total of 60 chop damage as a level 1 item. Players that have progressed into the Plains should collect Blackmetal Scraps to craft the best axe in the game.

Auto-Attack Mod

It can be annoying to press the attack button every constantly while farming wood. There is an auto-attack mod that will save gamers from getting hand cramps while trying to cut down all the trees in the forest. Gamers can find the mod on Nexus Mods, one of the largest Valheim mod sites. All players need to do is press the attack button and wait for the trees to fall. The mod is a lot less useful when actually fighting enemies, but it can be viable while attacking with daggers.

There are also several stamina mods available for players that do not mind cutting a few corners to be more efficient. Survivors that want to play the game legitimately will need to turn off the stamina mod while fighting enemies.

Kill Two Birds With One Stone

When chopping down a tree in Valheim, it will always fall in the direction a player is facing. Gamers can choose where they want a tree to fall to make breaking it down easier or to kill any nearby enemies. More importantly, a falling tree will knock down another tree. Survivors should always be trying to knock down an extra tree or two by chopping from the right angle. With the right spawns, gamers can knock down multiple trees like dominoes.

Chop Two Times The Wood

After knocking down a number of trees, survivors will need to chop them once again to farm the wood. It is generally a smart idea to chop down a bunch of trees before breaking them down. This is because the axe can damage more than one tree at a time. If the logs are close enough together, gamers will be able to break down both trees with half the number of swings. The more trees that are chopped down, the more likely there will be a few of them grouped closely together.

The Troll Method

Survivors can actually use a troll to collect a ton of wood very quickly. Trolls in the Black Forest one-hit trees if they attack near them. Players can find one of them in the area and lead them around trees to gather wood much faster than the traditional method.

Trolls will knock down a tree with one hit, and break it down with another. This method is best suited for gamers that prefer a thrill over menial farming. It is a bit risky, especially at lower levels. Players will want to at least have a bow on hand to kill the Troll if necessary.

Bring A Cart

Cart in Valheim

To bring back more wood, gamers will want to craft a cart. The only items needed to craft it are 20 Wood and 10 Bronze nails. Bronze is an alloy formed by combining both copper and tin. Copper and Tin Ore are resources found in the Black Forest biomes. The cart will provide additional slots for storage, meaning fewer trips to the forest. The item can be destroyed if trees fall on it, so it is best to leave the cart some distance away from where the player will be farming trees.

Get the Megingjord Belt

Valheim vendor

Survivors will likely want to get their hands on the Megingjord Belt, which provides 150 additional inventory slots. The belt can be purchased from an NPC named Haldor. The NPC will never spawn in the same location, so gamers will need to search the Black Forest biome for him.

Once players are within a few hundred meters, an indicator will appear that marks his location on the map. The belt will cost 950 coins, but it is well worth the price. With all of these methods and plenty of inventory space, survivors will same an incredible amount of time while farming wood.
