V Rising will soon get a massive update, dubbed Update #1 by the Stunlock Studios developers. The full name of the update is Secrets Of Gloomrot, and it releases on May 17, 2023. The update has been revealed to be one part of a series of three planned free updates for V Rising. Given how explicit Stunlock Studios has been about mentioning the free price of this update, paid content is sure to come in the near future.
While Secrets Of Gloomrot may not include the unfinished area of land east of V Rising’s Vardoran map, it still has an impressive amount of content to offer in the meantime. In addition to an entirely new biome, the Secrets Of Gloomrot update will also improve existing parts of Vardoran. V Rising’s progression system will be receiving some major tuning and reworks, as well as a long list of new content, mechanics, and features.
Everything Coming in V Rising's Secrets Of Gloomrot Update
The cinematic reveal trailer for the Secrets of Gloomrot update briefly showed off some mad scientists, tesla coils, and experimental “Frankenstein” monsters. The new Gloomrot biome in V Rising will be north of the Dunley Farmlands and west of the Cursed Forest, and it will connect to both of these two biomes. While this may not be the biome that fills in the nonexistent Eastern side of the map that is visible but not accessible, the Gloomrot biome is among the largest areas in the game. The update overall will introduce new enemies, bosses, character factions, and types of blood in V Rising.
Aside from the new Gloomrot biome, the entirety of the V Rising’s original Vardoran map is said to be getting adjusted to improve the aesthetic of the map as well as add new enemies. Certain areas of Dunley Farmlands will be getting expansions, like the Quartz Mines and Glass Factory. There will be more vendors throughout the game where players can spend Silver Coins. There will also be changes to the player’s inventory and character customization options. A lot of the updates to existing content are geared towards quality-of-life improvements and streamlining the flow of progress, which is especially helpful for solo players and/or PvP in V Rising.
The new Greatsword weapon is also coming in the Secrets of Gloomrot update, along with new legendary variants of the existing weapon types in V Rising. One of the biggest changes from the update is the Jewel system, which will add a layer of depth to the spells in V Rising, similar to legendary weapons. Jewels (not to be confused with Gems) will provide unique, randomly generated benefits that can be equipped to add additional potency and effects to different spells. Spells overall are getting reworked to add unique status effects and synergies between different spells. Lastly, the Secrets of Gloomrot update will add a new school of spells, Storm.
One component of the update that has been openly communicated throughout the game’s recent development is the addition of 2-story castles. Stunlock Studios has been very upfront about the progress it has made in order to allow for additional verticality to building Vampire castles in V Rising. It seems that in order to accomplish this, a rework of the entire building system was necessary. Not too much has been revealed about what the overhaul to building mechanics will amount to leading up to the update. Although, it's safe to say that players can expect plenty of new furniture, structures, and customization options along with the addition of an additional story. One of the new buildable objects that have been shown off is a teleporter to traverse castles with ease.
