V Rising Is Finally Coming to PS5

Swedish developer Stunlock Studios' popular vampire survival RPG and castle builder V Rising is finally coming to the PlayStation 5.

What are Stygian Shards?

Among the various resources that can be obtained from the world and enemies, the Stygian Shards are something new that has only appeared thanks to the influence of Dracula.

By completing certain activities, players can amass a collection of this resource, and they are quite invaluable for those who have progressed into the endgame of V Rising.

Where to Find Stygian Shards in V Rising

There is only one way to obtain Stygian Shards in the game, and that is through Rift Incursions, which only appear in the Ruins of Mortium. Once players come into possession of the Eye of Mortium, these world events will begin to appear on the map.

There are two different varieties of Rift Incursions as well. The base event is catered to players who are level 57 or higher, rewarding the standard Stygian Shards. The more advanced version of the event is only for those level 80 and above, with Greater Stygian Shards up for grabs.

Arrive at the location in question, and your objective is to defeat all the enemies that appear and close off the realm rift that is being summoned by the vampire cultists. In total, players will have to do this three times against increasingly dangerous enemies, including empowered V Blood bosses who may have been vanquished before. Each rift closed will drop Stygian Shards for players to collect, so make sure you don't miss them.

How to Use Stygian Shards in V Rising

Now that you have this rare resource, it is time to put it to work for your advantage. Stygian Shards can be used to deal with:

  • Vampire Merchants
  • Altar of Stygian Awakening
  • Stygian Summoning Circle

Vampire Merchants

Within the Ruins of Mortium are two vampiric vendors, with one dealing in the normal Stygian Shards and the other with the Greater variant. Spending Stygian Shards will give players access to Ancestral Weapon shards, albeit in a randomized manner save for the weapon type, which will undoubtedly increase your power in V Rising after repairing them at the Ancient Forge.

Altar of Stygian Awakening

For those looking to accrue power in another way, the Altar of Stygian Awakening is a valuable avenue to look at. After building it back at your base, you can access a selection of different passive buffs that can be purchased using Stygian Shards.

Each type of magic has a new ability to consider, and with three tiers to choose from, players will have more ways to tune their vampire to become even more effective.

Stygian Summoning Circle

The last use of Stygian Shards will allow players to seek out specific loot by summoning a specific enemy at the Stygian Summoning Circle. By combining Stygian Shards with other ingredients, you will bring into the world a certain Blood enemy. Defeating it will drop a set type and number of resources, which makes it possible to stock up on things you might need in the future.
