Legendary weapons are typically the most sought-after items in many RPGs, and such is now the case with V Rising. The free expansion added Ancestral Gear, its own take on this class of equipment, and it presents players with new ways to refine their builds and playstyles.

This V Rising guide details how to mine Iron Ore, how to turn that Ore into Iron Ingots, and how to form those Ingots into Iron equipment.

As expected, Ancestral gear is not easy to come by. Players will have to go through a few hurdles before they can actually start using the weapons they want. Many of the requirements for this new weapon type are locked behind the game's progression wall, so expect to sink some time into V Rising before Ancestral weapons become relevant.

Updated May 14, 2024, by Marc Santos: The release of V Rising 1.0 saw some minor changes to how Ancestral and Legendary weapons are acquired. The boss needed to unlock the main crafting station for these items has been changed, and players can now buy Ancestral Weapon Shards from a dedicated merchant in the new endgame area. This guide has been updated to reflect both of these changes.

How to Get Ancestral Weapons in V RIsing

Info on Octavian, a boss from V Rising

All Ancestral weapons are crafted in an Ancestral Forge. This crafting station can be unlocked by beating Octavian the Militia Captain in the Dunley Bastion. He is a level 61 boss, so make sure to bring good weapons and armor. Unfortunately, the work doesn't stop here.

To make an Ancestral Forge, players need to craft Radium Alloys in V Rising, a new type of composite resource that can only be crafted after beating Ziva the Engineer in Eastern Gloomrot. Radium Alloys require Sludge-filled Canisters, Sulphur, and Tech Scraps. Defeating Ziva will also unlock a new spell point for the Storm school and the Fabricator, which is used to make usable coins for trading.

Once the Ancestral Forge is up and running, players then need to get Shattered Weapons. Players might come across these while slaying V Blood bosses in the Farbane Woods and Dunley Farmlands. They are indicated by their blue name and apparent uselessness.

How to Use Shattered Weapons

Shattered pistols in V Rising

Shattered weapons cannot be used until they are crafted into Ancestral weapons in Ancestral Forges. Once fully restored, they will gain all the stats listed in their item cards, turning them from useless ornaments to powerful additions to the player's arsenal in V Rising.

Ancestral weapons come with high base stats and unique effects that are directly related to the different schools of magic. They offer the same two skills present in their respective weapon types, but Legendaries come imbued with the ability to inflict magical debuffs upon using the indicated abilities. An Ancestral Lightning Sword, for example, will be able to inflict the Static status when hitting enemies with its Whirlwind ability.

The Vampire Merchant in V Rising

Shattered weapons do seem to drop more often after beating bosses, so players who want to farm for these items will have to constantly hunt down V Bloods and simply hope for the best. Alternatively, the Vampire Merchant in the Ruins of Mortium sells Ancestral Weapon Shards in exchange for Stygian Shards.

How To Get Unique Legendary Weapons

The Apocalypse unique greatsowrd in V Rising

Legendary Ancestral weapons can be obtained by crafting. You must get their Shattered versions from Major Rift Incursions or endgame bosses in the Ruins of Mortium, and bring them back home just like other Ancestral Weapons. They are made from their respective weapon shards, a weapon from the previous Sanguine tier, and Onyx Tears, materials that drop from Level 74+ bosses or crafted after defeating Nightmarshal Styx.

Legendary weapons come with unique stats and modifiers to their abilities. The Apocalypse greatsword, for example, launches a lesser Aftershock every time players use its Death From Above ability, while its Great Cleaver skill deals more damage versus Ignited targets.
