A new open-world vampire game, V Rising, has been announced for PC from Stunlock Studios. V Rising had its reveal trailer air today and casts the player as a vampire who has just awoken from a centuries-long slumber who must survive in a world ruled by humans.

Stunlock Studios is a team of 30 based in Sweden. Its previous games include Battlerite and Bloodline Champions which were both free-to-play action games focused on PvP. V Rising remains without an expected release date as of this writing.

The reveal trailer takes players through the lore behind the game, introducing them to a world where vampires once ruled but were overthrown by humans. The player will start off as a reawakened vampire who must build their strength, raise their castle, and convert humans to grow their empire. The Steam description states: "Make allies online, fend off holy soldiers, and wage war against other players in a world of conflict." The game remains in development at the moment but this trailer marks the first step towards it having a Beta release. V Rising will be able to be played solo or cooperatively with friends and Stunlock Studios boasts that it has an open world filled with humans and supernatural beings.

Stunlock Studios current roster of titles focuses on PvP combat and intense battles so it is reasonable to believe players of V Rising will find more of the same here. Noting that, however, it looks like this will be the studio's most ambitious game to date. The Steam page details that players will have to gather resources, build and customize castles, and take into account a day and night cycle when planning. But at the core of V Rising seems to be a gothic open world full of conflict.

V Rising's trailer and art style should catch the eye of players interested in the gothic aesthetic. The trailer tells an interesting tale and the game promises online multiplayer, survival gameplay, and customization but the game's release is quite far away. For now fans of any of those categories have been given a reason to be excited for this title but proper judgement will come with more information.

That being said, the mix that Stunlock Studios is going for definitely seems interesting. The vampire aesthetic V Rising is going for has persisted for quite a long time and the promise of online multiplayer from a studio that has experience with it should be a safe bet. Either way players have a bit to wait before V Rising is in Beta form. Hopefully all follow up trailers and gameplay continue to look good and the release goes well.

V Rising is in development for PC.
