Universal Orlando confirms when it will be reopening its popular theme park after having to close because of COVID-19. The location is one of several theme parks in the state of Florida to have closed, as Disney also shut down Disney World.

The public will be able to head back to Universal Orlando beginning June 5, 2020, it has been announced. John Sprouls, the CEO of Universal Orlando, submitted a proposal to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force on Thursday and it was unanimously approved. The reopening plan will see Universal bring in employees on June 1, selected visitors on June 3, and everyone will be able to visit on June 5. The park will have social distancing and temperature checks for everybody.

Universal, like many entertainment companies, has lost a huge amount of money because of the closure of its locations. Universal Orlando may have lost $10.79 million a day since it has been closed. This is less than the $1 billion Disney has lost after having to close its parks, but it's not a small amount.

The company has been able to make money by choosing to release movies like Trolls World Tour on digital and not in movie theaters. However, the success of that movie will not have stopped Universal from wanting to open its theme park quicker.
