In order to defeat a colossus, the player has to find a way to climb it and find weak points to strike and resist the colossus trying to take the player off while doing so.
Shin Megami Tensei 4
A relatively hidden gem it is, SMT 4 offers players quite a lot of different mechanics. In the game, there are demons that the player can battle, offer an object, or try to convince them to be a part of their team. If the latter is chosen, players can use the demons in their team to morph and create abominations that have the attributes of their former selves.
This system of creation keeps the player looking for new specimens as there are hundreds of different demons in the game. Additionally, the game also has multiple endings and the story changes through the decisions the player makes, making the whole process all the more immersive.
Bastion
The combat system in Bastion is one of its standout features, having both real-time and strategy combat elements. Additionally, the game is adorned with a 2D hand-painted environment and 3D models.
However, these are not the features that make the game unique, but rather the dynamic narrator implemented in the game. There is a narrator in the game who reacts to the actions and movements of the player, making the experience immersive, adding up to its unique art design and captivating story.
Chrono Trigger
Developed by Square (now named Square Enix) and released in 1995, Chrono Trigger is regarded as one of the greatest role-playing games ever made, if not the greatest one itself. This is largely due to its timeless storyline with multiple endings, and innovative use of time travel in the game.
Playing as Crono, a boy that accidentally traveled through time and entangled in a series of unfortunate events, the player tries to save the world from destruction by traveling through time and seeing how the choices made in the past affected the future world.
Persona 5 Royal
In Persona 5, The player takes control of a high schooler who is falsely accused and put on probation. The game revolves around the collection, fusion, and interaction between Personas, which are manifestations of a character's psyche. Much like Shin Megami Tensei 4, the player can morph different personas in their team to enhance their strength and stand victorious in battles to come.
Additionally, the players need to invest in social interactions in their life to gain new attributes and perks, making the gameplay a versatile and satisfying experience overall. Furthermore, the game has one of the best user-friendly UI disguised as a smartphone. Yet the feature that gets praised the most seems to be the social link system of the game, along with the personal interactions between party members, as well as school life.
