This endeavor may feel a bit overwhelming to some fans, though, as there are an extraordinary number of class combinations to try. For those players that are feeling a bit lost as they attempt to build their units, this guide details three potent team comps that can be used to overcome Unicorn Overlord's early game.
Unicorn Overlord: Best Early Game Team Comps
Alain (Lord), Bernice (Sellsword), Mordon/Nina (Warrior)
This team looks to use the powerful tanking abilities of Unicorn Overlord's Lord class to trigger the Sellsword's Following Slash passive skill many times during battle. For the uninitiated, that skill activates any time that an ally is hit by an attack, and the unit's Warrior can help with any armored foes that the Sellsword struggles to dispatch. Notably, players could consider replacing the Warrior with something like a Witch, as classes that focus on magick attacks also are helpful against armor.
Players who want to maximize the efficacy of this team comp should make sure to prioritize equipping their Sellsword with items that boost their Physical Attack. Fans of tactical RPGs should also set Own HP is <75% and Lowest HP as conditions for the Lord's Lean Edge action , as that will improve their tanking considerably.
Unicorn Overlord's Tactics Are a Blast from Classic JRPG Past
The recent demo for Atlus and Vanillaware's Unicorn Overlord showed off its new Tactics system, which bears a striking resemblance to a classic JRPG.
Bruno (Gladiator), Clive (Knight), Travis (Thief)
This team comp looks to take advantage of Clive's extremely powerful Assaulting Lance, an attack that grants +1 AP if it defeats its target. To increase the chances of that effect occurring, Vanillaware fans should focus on equipping the Knight with gear that increases Physical Attack and Critical Rate, and they should make sure to set the Lowest HP condition for Assaulting Lance.
While having Bruno and Travis share tanking duties should allow them to both remain healthy, fans of strategy games could consider replacing the Thief with a Solider. Indeed, the Soldier will provide some additional healing when Bruno's Bulk Up action is not enough, and they should be placed in the back row.
Lex (Fighter), Rolf (Hunter), Aubin (Housecarl)
While it is very likely that this is the least powerful of the three team comps detailed in this guide, it is definitely capable of putting up a fight. The Housecarl in particular is quite a strong class in Unicorn Overlord, as their Parting Blow ability allows them to perform two attacks every battle.
