While it is not requisite that players complete that quest, those that do will receive a very powerful reward. Find the Drakenhold Journal
The first step toward completing the Carved of Drakenhold Stone overworld quest is initiating it, and that is done by collecting a journal. That journal can be found among some ruins near the south coast of Drakenhold, just southeast of the Bandit Camp tower, and the precise position of those ruins has been marked on the map that is above.
Visit the Carvings in Order
Players must now set their sights on visiting the four carvings in Drakenhold, and they must interact with those objects in a certain order. Specifically, fans of tactical RPGs must visit the scorpion carving, then the reaper carving, then the cockatrice carving, and then the wyvern carving, and here is a map that should make it quite easy to complete that task:
To note, players must complete the Ompalast Wooden Bridge overworld quest if they hope to reach the reaper carving. This quest is initiated by speaking with a marked NPC that is just west of Ompalast Town, and it is resolved by handing over 30 Dracia Lumber. As its name suggests, that Unicorn Overlord material comes from Drakenhold, and players who station guards in liberated towns and interact with illuminated points in the overworld should be able to accumulate the requisite amount.
Collect Rewards
Upon interacting with the wyvern carving, players will complete the Carved of Drakenhold Stone quest and receive the associated rewards. Those rewards are the Kingsaxe Drakenash, five Honors, and 1,000 War Funds, and the weapon is almost certainly the most exciting of the bunch. Indeed, the Kingsaxe Drakenash packs quite a punch, and it is very likely to be an upgrade for a Houscarl, Gladiator, Warrior, or other axe-wielding class that a player has in one of their Unicorn Overlord units.
