State of Decay games developer Undead Labs is allegedly working on projects other than State of Decay 3. The developer has been working on State of Decay 3 for quite some time, with it announcing the game during the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase.

The games under the State of Decay series from Undead Labs are among the more popular zombie survival games in the industry. Its latest entry, State of Decay 2, is one of the best open-world zombie survival games despite being more than five years old. Its success has made many fans call on Undead Labs to develop a sequel - a wish that came true with the developer's announcement of State of Decay 3. However, Undead Labs has been mostly silent about its progress on the game's development since then, and there might be a new reason why.

Twitter users Idle Sloth and Romu_lus may have discovered that Undead Labs is working on at least two unreleased games apart from State of Decay 3, which might further explain why Gears of War developer The Coalition is helping develop the series' next installment. Their posts cited the LinkedIn profile of former Undead Labs Senior Narrative Animator Daniel Floyd, which states that he worked on "other not-yet-released projects" before leaving Undead Labs in February 2023. Considering that Undead Labs announced State of Decay 3 in 2020, it is plausible that Floyd's statement might mean that the developer is working on other games while it's developing State of Decay 3.

Floyd's statement didn't mention if the other projects Undead Labs is working on could be new games from the developer or if it is acting as support to other Xbox game developers. Some gamers speculate that Undead Labs' other projects are story-driven titles in the State of Decay universe, while several think they're zombie games with a survival horror/action focus. One gamer also believes that Undead Labs' other projects are State of Decay 3's DLCs, which could be possible as the game might potentially be Undead Labs' biggest and boldest entry in the State of Decay series.

Idle Sloth and Romu_lus' discovery might not bode well for State of Decay 3's development and release date. Fans may recall a rumor about State of Decay 3 not being released until 2027 for unknown reasons. If the rumor is true, Floyd's statement and the alleged toxicity and sexism in Undead Labs' workplace could be the reasons behind the long wait despite The Coalition's assistance.
