When it comes to the Uncharted franchise, there are a lot of reasons the games have found such immense success. Most attribute the strong sales and staying power to the gameplay and the writing, which has focused on jaw-dropping set pieces and witty banter, but few can deny the strength of Uncharted’s characters.

Ever since bursting onto the scene with his half tuck and perfect haircut, Nathan Drake has seemingly been Sony’s number 1 mascot, promoting everything from PlayStation systems to Naughty Dog’s own Uncharted franchise. However, Drake is but a small part of the Uncharted equation; in fact, he’s nothing without his courageous band of comrades, Sully and Elena.

Although Naughty Dog may have made the tough decision to delayUncharted 4 to 2016, they are still making progress on the game every day. Just this week, for example, those aforementioned comrades finished their motion capture work on the game.

Well, technically the actors who provide the voices and movements for the characters finished their work, but Richard McGonagle and Emily Rose have become so synonymous with Sully and Elena it’s hard not to see them as those individuals. Much like it’s nearly impossible not to hear Nathan Drake any time Nolan North talks, even when he’s not promoting Uncharted, McGonagle and Rose truly embody their characters, in a way.

Elena Sully Uncharted 4 MoCap

Naughty Dog confirmed the duo’s finished work with a series of images featuring Uncharted 4 director Neil Druckmann and the two actors. As most know, Druckmann, along with fellow The Last of Us director Bruce Straley, took over for Amy Hennig after the original Uncharted director left the project suddenly.

While we have known that both Sully and Elena are in Uncharted 4 for a while, the nature of their involvement is somewhat of a mystery. We do know that Drake has settled down with Elena, so it’s possible she may only feature into a few early-game scenes, but Sully is typically out in the field with Nathan, acting as his voice of reason and a good source of idle banter.

Thus far, however, promotional material for the game has focused on the character of Sam Drake, Nathan’s brother and a fellow adventure. Apparently Sam was thought dead, but when he turns up alive, Nathan tries to help him uncover a long lost pirate colony.

With Richard McGonagle and Emily Rose having finished their motion capture work, that likely now leaves Nolan North and Troy Baker, who plays Sam, left out of the main cast. North presumably has the most work left because in addition to mo-capping Nathan Drake, he typically takes on a few random thugs as well. Truthfully, the guy is everywhere.

Uncharted 4 is set to release spring 2016 for PS4.
