Netflix just put out a sneak peek for season 2 of its surprise superhero hit The Umbrella Academy, and it promises plenty more of the imaginative charm that audiences come for. The teaser, featuring a largely unbroken action shot through a war torn street set in 1063 and backed by Frank Sinatra's "My Way," appears to be the opening scene of season 2's first episode.

The teaser follows the character Number Five, who has the ability to travel through time and space, as he arrives in 1963 Dallas amid a Cold War battle between U.S. and Russian forces. The camera begins to whip around, showcasing the talents of the rest of the titular team as they battle soldiers using their own unique superpowers, before culminating in a final shot of a nuclear mushroom cloud overlaid with the show's title card.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic series of the same name created by Gerard Way (yes, thatGerard Way of My Chemical Romance) and centers around an adopted family of young superpowered individuals who were all mysteriously born at the same time. Brought together by a rich entrepreneur with a hidden past of his own, the 7 newly acquainted siblings are made into the show's namesake superhero team. Featuring time travel, speaking to the dead, and the end of the world, it's a show few could describe as "subdued."

Season 1, which premiered in 2019, garnered largely average to favorable reviews and reactions from viewers, earning its place as the third most popular series of 2019 on Netflix. Many drew comparisons to another unorthodox comic-inspired show, Doom Patrol, which may give newcomers an idea of what to expect if this new teaser convinced them to give The Umbrella Academy a shot.

If nothing else, the cast may also attract a few eyes. The Umbrella Academy notably features Ellen Page, along with Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min as the superhero family, with Mary J. Blige also appearing in season 1 among others. Fans eager to jump into season 2 can rest easy knowing the main cast is returning to reprise their respective roles. Season 2 will also see the inclusion of Ritu Arya, Marin Ireland and Yusuf Gatewood to the cast.

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy will premiere on Netflix on July 31st.
