Netflix's beloved and eternally weird superhero series The Umbrella Academy is finally in production of its fourth and final season. Fans have surely been champing at the bit to hear some new information regarding the show's highly-anticipated finale, and this could be what they've been waiting for. After The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended on a massive cliffhanger, fans immediately began worrying about the show's fate. This is understandable, given Netflix's penchant for canceling popular shows in their prime with seemingly little regard for the legions of fans who watch them. But luckily, The Umbrella Academy was quickly renewed for another season, with the unfortunate caveat that the 4th would also be the last. Maybe that's for the best, given recent developments on the streaming service.RELATED: The Umbrella Academy: 8 Fan Theories That Just Make SenseThe Netflix Geeked Twitter account has shared an image of The Umbrella Academy's main cast all smiles in what appears to be the room they'll be using for their table read of the season's scripts. This includes Elliot Page (Viktor), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Five), Justin H. Min (Ben), Ritu Arya (Lila), and showrunner Steve Blackman. They look as excited to get started as the fans surely are to see what they have in store.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comics of the same name by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way. It features the aforementioned stars as an adopted family of superpowered individuals who are all born at the same time under mysterious circumstances. They're brought together by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) to form a team of heroes under the titular name. This doesn't initially include Lila, who was also one of the children born at the same time but didn't find her way into the group until decades later.

It's been confirmed that The Umbrella Academy's final season will be much shorter at only 6 episodes, which may be unfortunate news for those still reeling from the season 3 cliffhanger. That season saw the main family essentially reboot the universe to save it, finding themselves in yet another alternate timeline with many striking differences from the one they'd just left. Aside from the world no longer ending, every member of the Hargreeves family has lost their powers and gained something they'd always wanted: the chance to live a normal life. But it might not be so simple.

Perhaps the final season will be so short to allow Blackman to get started on the upcoming Horizon Dawn series. Or maybe it was seen as the ideal way to tell the end of The Umbrella Academy's story. However things turn out, it's been a heck of a ride, and seeing it end will be a bittersweet occasion.

The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
