A World of Warcraft streamer from Ukraine had their broadcast interrupted by an attack by the Russian military on his city. While the World of Warcraft content creator was thankfully unaffected by the incident, it was no less chilling an experience to endure.

Ukrainian World of Warcraft fan and Twitch star Punisher3d is a popular streamer with over 54,000 followers. Like many World of Warcraft fans right now, he has been enjoying his time exploring the Embers of Neltharion content update, which added a new zone full of activities and items to collect.

However, one of Punisher3d’s recent World of Warcraft Twitch streams was interrupted in a terrifying way. While questing in Valdrakken, he heard noises that almost sounded like thunder. When the sirens and explosions kicked in, any question that it was a natural phenomenon was dismissed. This clip shows a small portion of the event, but the attack, and Punisher3d’s reaction, can be seen and heard starting at the 2:50:00 mark of the full Twitch VoD.

Fans who saw the clip confirmed Punisher3d was luckily not in immediate danger. The sounds were Ukrainian air defense targeting missiles and drones aimed at the city, and despite their volume, they were probably somewhat distant from his home. After making some calls, Punisher3d came to the same conclusion and bravely went on to continue his stream for two more hours.

Punisher3d’s fellow fans reacted to his situation with a mixture of morbid humor and sympathy on the Reddit post sharing the clip. Some fans joked that he had his priorities straight by continuing to play World of Warcraft regardless of what was happening outside, while others said he was getting “ganked in real life.” Others expressed anger at the situation, citing it was monstrous for civilians to have to go through stuff like this. Regardless, gamers from both Ukraine and Russia came together to express their grievances with the war and Putin.

The fact Punisher3d had to go through this event at all is awful. The war between Russia and Ukraine has taxed civilians, who cannot even safely game in their own homes without worrying about an attack hitting their cities. Were that and the ghastly loss of life not enough, hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens who oppose the war have also been cut off from many game services due to companies severing ties with the country in solidarity with Ukraine. Hopefully, the war can come to an end soon so everyone can live, and game, in peace.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
