Ubisoft is known throughout the gaming community to have some of the most popular and memorable titles to date, such as Assassin's Creed and the Far Cry series. Recently, the company has even seen a lot of success and announced that it had the biggest holiday sale in Ubisoft history last year for 2020, making over 1.2 billion in sales.
Even though the company has much to celebrate, sadly, not everything is as good it seems for Ubisoft, especially for the people working there. The company has received multiple different misconduct allegations regarding the company's toxic workplace environment, especially towards women. Reports include cases of harassment, sexual misconduct, and abuse allegations towards top members of the company. To combat this, the company recently announced that it is hiring a new Chief People Officer named Anika Grant.
Grant has gained more than 20 years of experience on the job, recently serving as the Global HR Director at Dyson and before that as the Senior Director of HR over at Uber. Anika Grant has even served companies in various locations such as Sydney, London, Paris, and Singapore to better companies through their workers. Grant's new position will oversee Ubisoft's approach to benefits and compensation, global recruiting, talent management, and leadership development.
Anika Grant will work directly under Ubisoft Co-Founder and CEO Yves Guillemot. In a public statement, Guillemot explained that he is very excited to bring Grant on board. The experience she brings to the workplace will be crucial to continue developing the company's approach to HR. Not only that, but Grant's role in the company will consist of unifying the different HR teams and creating new ways of working within the company.
Grant's other Ubisoft tasks include improving Ubisoft's organizational performance, talent development strategies, and ensuring safe workplace culture. Grant's response to her appointment stating that she is excited to be a part of the team that provides quality fulfillment through gaming experiences. Grant hopes that she can continue to make Ubisoft an employer of choice and will make the workplace challenging, welcoming, and a safe space for creativity.
Hopefully, Grant is able to turn the company around in a way that will benefit everyone involved. Many top executives at Ubisoft have resigned from the company in light of these allegations, so she does have a lot of work ahead of her. However, her years of experience surely qualifies her for the behemoth of a task to make the much-needed improvements within Ubisoft.
