Many Ubisoft game purchases have started automatically carrying over to Amazon Luna as of December 6. This development marks yet another occasion on which Amazon and Ubisoft opted to strengthen their sprawling partnership. It also reaffirms Ubisoft's commitment to cloud gaming initiatives, which the company has been actively supporting for years now, bringing its catalog to virtually every relevant platform on the market, from Nvidia's GeForce Now to the short-lived Google Stadia service.

Likewise, ever since Amazon announced Luna in 2020, Ubisoft has been one of the biggest supporters of the tech giant's channel-based game streaming solution. The manner in which the studio handled the subsequent releases of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Far Cry 6 established an expectation that all of its future AAA games will be available on Amazon Luna from day one.

In the meantime, Ubisoft is choosing to double down on its Amazon partnership by making its PC game purchases carry over to Luna. This newly added feature is powered by the Ubisoft Connect app, formerly known as Uplay. Starting December 6, any PC game purchased within the Ubisoft Connect ecosystem that's also available on Luna will automatically carry over to Amazon's service. Taking advantage of the newly introduced cross-purchase support will naturally require either a Luna+ or Amazon Prime subscription, priced at $9.99 and $14.99 per month, respectively.

Regardless of that requirement, the newly announced functionality introduces the first method of playing Ubisoft games via the service without subscribing to the Ubisoft+ Amazon Luna channel, which requires a monthly fee of $17.99. The said subscription currently includes a library of 40 streamable games and can also be obtained by purchasing the Ubisoft+ multi-access plan directly from Ubisoft, which will also carry over to Luna and unlock its Ubisoft+ channel.

Cross-purchase compatibility with the Ubisoft Connect ecosystem represents an important vote of confidence for Luna, arriving just in time to offset some of the platform's struggles to grow its game catalog. Namely, Luna is losing a lot of games in December, and while Amazon is still adding new titles to its service on a regular basis, the latest wave of expiring licensing deals proved to be large enough to raise questions about the overall future of the platform. Doubly so because the conglomerate's cloud gaming unit has recently been hit with layoffs, according to mid-November reports. While the size of the workforce cutbacks affecting the Luna division remains unclear, Amazon is said to be looking to eliminate around 10,000 jobs on a company-wide level until the end of the year.
