Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed that multiple remakes of old Assassin's Creed titles are coming in the future. The long-running franchise has spawned over a dozen entries since kicking off with the first Assassin's Creed game in 2007.

For nearly two decades, Assassin's Creed has consistently achieved remarkable success with games like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. In the process, the highly profitable franchise has virtually become synonymous with developer Ubisoft. Notably, its rich and long history means that the series is also ripe for the devs to go back and explore the remake potential of certain classic Assassin's Creed titles.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Might Have a Hard Time Shaking One Comparison to Ghost of Tsushima

Assassin's Creed Shadows and Ghost of Tsushima were always going to be compared to one another, and there's one comparison that can't be ignored.

In a recent interview published by Ubisoft, Guillemot said that Assassin's Creed fans can ramp up their excitement as "some remakes" of old Assassin's Creed games are set to arrive in subsequent years. He added that the "worlds" in certain older games in the series are "still extremely rich." The CEO expects remakes to enable the gaming giant to "revisit" previous Assassin's Creed titles and "modernize" them. On whether the series will retain its newly established approach, with large-scale entries like Valhalla being developed alongside games closer to the original Assassin's Creed formula like Mirage, Guillemot confirmed that the future of the franchise will have "plenty of experience variety."

Ubisoft Aims to Diversify the Assassin's Creed Experience

Explaining the variety-focused approach for Assassin's Creed, Guillemot emphasized that, while the developer aims to roll out games "more regularly," it also wants the franchise to avoid being "the same experience every year." He suggested that this new approach to the series will be better understood when players notice how much the forthcoming Assassin's Creed: Shadows differs from Assassin's Creed Hexe, which will be released even further down the road. He added, "We're going to surprise people, I think."

With remakes now confirmed, players can likely expect iconic Assassin's Creed characters, such as Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway, to return in a modern game in the future. Based on the Ubisoft CEO's statement about regularity, it seems possible for the franchise to eventually return to its old ways of releasing a new Assassin's Creed game every year--as was routine from 2009 to 2015. Given that the developer's strategy going ahead also focuses on providing varied experiences, fans may see these remakes thrown in between modern Valhalla-like Assassin's Creed entries and more traditional Assassin's Creed titles like Mirage.

While there's still plenty of time before Ubisoft fleshes out its Assassin's Creed remake plans, the next game in the series is set to arrive on November 15. At its Ubisoft Forward event earlier this month, the developer gave an extended look at Assassin's Creed: Shadows's gameplay, revealing a bunch of new features. As Ubisoft prepares to welcome the fans to a feudal Japan experience, it'll be exciting to see which era it decides to revisit with the first Assassin's Creed remake.
