It's been quite some time since Ty the Tasmanian Tiger got any love. The franchise hasn't seen the light of day in quite some time, with the latest entry coming in the form of a 2D platformer back in 2013. However the first game, simply dubbed Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, is set to get an HD remaster, and fans finally know when they can get their hands on it.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 31st, with a PlayStation 4 release planned for soon after that. There will also be an Xbox One version of the game released after the PS4 version, though it isn't clear how long the gap between the two will be. The past few years have been a wonderful time for remasters of older games. Last year, a Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster was announced, making 2020 feel like a return to a beloved era of PS2 and original Xbox games.

The HD remaster of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is the product of a successful Kickstarter campaign to get the game on the Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox versions of the title are just a little bonus to sweeten the deal. Seeing the character return on new hardware will be wonderful for longtime fans of the franchise, who have gotten little in the way of a proper new entry to the franchise in years. There's just something about the titular Tasmanian tiger that brings backs fond memories for many.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger isn't the most iconic gaming franchise out there, though it does have quite a few games that were, generally, well-received by fans, though critical scores for the franchise have always fallen somewhere between good and mediocre. Nevertheless, opening the franchise up to an entirely new generation of gamers may lead to renewed interest in the franchise, and, hopefully, an entirely new entry.

Luckily, the wait until fans actually get their hands on the game isn't that long. Fans should be throwing boomerangs and running around as Ty in next to no time. Had the character been exclusive to the platform, Ty would have been a contender for PlayStation's best platforming mascot, so it's great to see him make a comeback.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger will release on March 31st, 2020, for the Nintendo Switch. Xbox and PS4 versions should release soon after.
