Music game legend Harmonix has now released its next rhythm game, Fuser. The Guitar Hero and Rock Band creator celebrated the release of its new DJ mashup game in the only way one can celebrate a DJ mashup game being released in 2020, by having fellow legend NBA megastar Shaq perform a live DJ set on Twitch.

Fuser is a game that sets the player up as the ultimate festival DJ, with the ability to mix different elements of over 100 famous songs to create unique mashups on the fly. The game released on Tuesday to generally positive reviews, with many praising the song selection but some calling the game not as easy or as fun to pick up and play as Harmonix’s previous offerings.

To commemorate the occasion, Harmonix invited NBA all-star Shaquille O'Neal to perform a DJ set of his own as his alter-ego DJ Diesel. Shaq is known for having more than a few endeavors outside of his NBA career on the court and off as a sportscaster, including acting and DJing as DJ Diesel since 1993, where his debut record went platinum that same year. Shaq may perhaps be most known to readers of this site as the star of his own video game in 1994, Shaq FU, which received a less-than stellar sequel in 2018.

The live stream featured DJ Diesel playing to a live audience of essentially no one, since concerts still aren’t really happening in the United States due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Still, one would be forgiven for thinking there was a live audience given the incredible amount of gusto and swagger present in Shaq’s performance.

Shaq is not the only celebrity to be a part of Fuser. Aside from an incredible setlist featuring the likes of Billie Eilish, Blue Oyster Cult, DMX, Lady Gaga, Pharrell, and Imagine Dragons, the game also utilized celebrities like David Hasslehoff and Chester Cheetah in a recent ad campaign.

The release of the game is not the end, however. As is tradition with Harmonix games, the DLC shall floweth for the foreseeable future, as even 2015’s Rock Band is still receiving DLC 5 whole years later with no signs of stopping. The same will likely be true for Fuser, assuming that the game maintains a reasonable degree of popularity going forward. The first 25 songs are already available in a VIP version of the game or purchasable separately on the DLC store for the game.

Fuser is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
