Nyanners, a VTuber and founding member of Vshojo, received a ban from Twitch on November 4. The ban came without warning for both Nyanners and her 860,000+ Twitch followers. Within hours, news of the ban spread and caused confusion and uproar on social media. Fans and colleagues of Nyanners called for a reversal of the ban and an explanation of why the hammer was dropped on her.Vshojo is a US-based, VTuber-focused talent agency that was founded in 2020 by former Twitch and YouTube employees theGunRun and Mowtendoo. Since then, Vshojo has signed some of the most popular Virtual YouTuber talents on Twitch. The current roster of Vshojo talent consists of Nyanners, Ironmouse, Zentreya, Silvervale, and more. Nyanners' teammate and friend Ironmouse became the most popular female streamer on Twitch, thanks in part to a subathon event earlier this year that ran from February 4 to March 7, and was recognized at TwitchCon for her efforts.RELATED: Twitch Bans and Unbans TheDanDangler for 7th TimeAs for Nyanners herself, she woke up to the news of her ban after the automated and fittingly named Twitter account StreamerBans reported on the issue. Naturally, this led to confusion from Nyanners and called for an explanation from Twitch as to why the ban was enacted. This was the first ban that Nyanners received on her account. However, this is not the first time that Twitch has caused confusion and uproar for banning a VTuber in particular. Back in July, a popular VTuber named Anny received a seven-day ban from Twitch for a violation of the site's nudity rules.

A few hours later, Nyanners said that she received an email concerning her ban, and said that it was due to "inappropriate attire" presumably stemming from her usage of a new, Halloween model that was showcased during an October 30 stream. The model itself, according to Nyanners, was revealing and showed a lot of skin, and questioned why Twitch took nearly a week to ban her for it. On social media, Nyanners' Vshojo teammates Ironmouse and Silvervale condemned the ban and used the hashtag #FreeNyan to protest against the decision. It's no secret that being a VTuber is a lucrative business with big money involved. As the genre's profits and popularity have soared since 2020, any calls to action on social media carry more weight than before.

After a full day, Nyanners was unbanned from the platform. Nyanners said that she felt awful for the artist that made her Halloween model and that she wanted to figure something out in the near future. Nyanners also promised to be on her best behavior going forward and hoped to return to streaming soon. Even the most popular Twitch streamers aren't above getting the hammer dropped on them, as shown by not just Nyanners, but some other major Twitch bans that took place in early 2022 and after. What Nyanners and Vshojo will do in the aftermath remains to be seen.
