At this point, it’s become commonplace to hear about one popular content creator or another being banned from Twitch, YouTube, or some other social media platform. Sometimes these removals are for clear violations of a site's terms of service, while there are occasions when the reason isn’t so obvious, such as when xQc got temporarily banned from YouTube in July and his videos were demonetized. Now, Australian Twitch streamer Crayator has also been unexpectedly banned, and his followers have been left in the dark about the cause.Crayator was banned from Twitch on August 21 for unclear reasons, and although the content creator knows why he was removed from the platform, he has chosen not to share. It’s also unknown how long the ban is intended to last, if it’s only temporary, or whether it’s permanent. On a post on his Discord channel, Crayator states that he “can’t go into the details” of the ban, but assures fans that “it was for something pretty damn harmless” like too many sex jokes. The streamer then reassures readers that he will be appealing the ban.The Twitch streamer seemed to take the surprise turn of events in good stride, announcing the ban on Twitter with a comedic video and the caption, “My time has come…” The parody video of the popular manga and anime series Death Note shows a character whose face has been replaced by the Twitch logo as it scribbles the name Crayator into the namesake notebook. The streamer then clickbaits readers with a follow-up tweet that says, “Omg want the reason we are banned?! Big news… Join Discord for drama.” As already mentioned, however, no explanation is actually provided on Discord or anywhere else.
Fans of the Twitch content creator do not seem incredibly worried by the ban. One person tweeted that, because it is Crayator’s first ban, it will probably “just be a 2-day vacation.” That is likely true, barring any particularly egregious behavior from the Australian streamer. It’s not often that Twitch personalities get permanently banned from the platform, and as in the case of Adin Ross who was banned indefinitely in April, popular content creators may be allowed to come back even after such a ruling.
On the other hand, there are some permanent bans that are never explained and are likely to forever remain a mystery, such as when Twitch infamously banned Dr Disrespect in June 2020 seemingly out of the blue. The popular streamer has since migrated successfully to YouTube, and though he eventually learned the reason for his ban from Twitch, Dr Disrespect has chosen not to share the details with the public.
