  • Twitch's ban policy can be inconsistent, leading to confusion and frustration among streamers like AnimalisaKeys.
  • Livestreamers may face sudden suspensions due to vague reasons, causing financial losses and concern.
  • Twitch CEO Clancy is working to improve the ban feedback system.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy was recently left confused after addressing a streamer's sudden ban. Twitch has been notorious for randomly suspending and banning creators for unknown reasons, which has frustrated many because they're losing revenue.

As a livestreaming platform, Twitch is very strict with the content that streamers put out and will almost immediately hand down sanctions if streamers do anything inappropriate or illegal. However, there have also been cases where it seems like streamers were subjected to mass reporting, which caused their accounts to be temporarily suspended. Still, many streamers have questioned Twitch's ban policy because of how inconsistent it can be, and how the platform hasn't unbanned certain users for years for unknown reasons.

Streamer xQc Is Suing Adept

Most assumed the legal dispute between Adept and xQc had settled with their divorce, but new developments have led to new lawsuits.

On May 26, Twitch streamer AnimalisaKeys, who's known for playing piano while cosplaying, was suddenly given an indefinite suspension due to "spamming violative video content." In a tweet, she expressed her confusion as to why Twitch penalized her when she was only playing piano and didn't do anything inappropriate to justify it. A few hours after AnimalisaKeys' initial post, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who was probably just as confused, said that he was also looking into the incident to figure out why it happened.

Fortunately, AnimalisaKeys was able to get her account back, but she was still concerned about why it happened in the first place. In the replies to her tweets, many followers sympathized with her because it would have been unfortunate if she lost two years worth of hard work over a mysterious suspension. They also commended Clancy for reaching out to the streamer and helping her resolve the issue. Over a month ago, Clancy acknowledged that Twitch needed a better ban feedback system, where streamers would get clearer explanations whenever they got banned or suspended.

How Twitch Bans Have Affected Streamers

Content creator JiDion was finally unbanned from Twitch earlier this month after over 800 days and a number of appeals to the platform to lift the ban. Meanwhile, some creators have moved to either YouTube or Kick in hopes of getting better treatment and salaries from streaming.
