Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios is reportedly hiring for work on a “globally known franchise,” sparking speculation and excitement. According to the job posting, Turtle Rock is looking for a candidate with experience working on FPS engines in a competitive environment.

The job listing that is making the rounds on Turtle Rock ‘s site is looking for a Senior Level Designer, but the studio is apparently hiring a ton of staff, which suggests that the upcoming game is a fairly large undertaking. No other major details can be gleaned from the post, though, outside of the fact that Turtle Rock Studios is looking for candidates with FPS experience. That makes sense given almost all of the studio’s projects have been first person shooters and most have had a competitive or cooperative slant to them.

No doubt Turtle Rock’s job listing is sure to lead to a lot of speculation, most notably that the studio is working on a new Left 4 Dead game. However, it’s important to point out that Valve still retains the rights to the Left 4 Dead franchise, so any sequels or side projects in that universe would also need Valve’s blessing.

Still, it’s hard not to see any other candidate fitting this billing based on the description (globally known franchise) and Turtle Rock’s involvement. Fans have been dying for a follow-up to Left 4 Dead 2 and there have been numerous rumors that a new game was in development.

Just recently Valve even started showing signs that it is getting back into the game publishing business, by picking up Firewatch developer Campo Santo. In March, Valve even revealed that it had several games in development, so it’s entirely possible that Turtle Rock Studios’ next project is one of those games. Despite being initially closed by Valve, Turtle Rock still retained a relationship with Valve after helping work on DLC for Left 4 Dead and eventually putting out Left 4 Dead 2.

While Evolve is officially no more, it’s good to see that Turtle Rock is continuing. Hopefully, we will hear more about the studio’s next project soon, but if it is just now hiring it may be a while.
