The Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion remaster was accidentally released early in Europe and Australia due to an error involving the game's release date on the Nintendo eShop. Nightdive Studios released an official statement regarding the state of the Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion remaster before its release on November 30.

Nightdive Studios is a Washington-based studio that focuses on developing and updating classic games for modern platforms, and its works include the beloved Turok series of first-person shooters. After releasing the Turok 2: Seeds of Evil remaster, the studio revealed that Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion would also receive a remaster. The remaster was originally scheduled to release on November 14 for consoles and PC, but a delay would push the release date to November 30. The delay gives Nightdive Studios more time to implement more bug fixes before releasing the remaster, but an issue with the Nintendo eShop caused the Switch version to release on November 14 in Europe and Australia.

With Ocarina of Time getting an unofficial PC port, it seems that modders are interested in reverse-engineering several other Nintendo 64 classics.

The official Nightdive Studios Twitter account released a statement regarding the accidental early release of the Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion remaster. Nightdive Studios has been working closely with Nintendo of Europe to resolve the issue and adjust the launch date for the game on the Nintendo eShop. During the process, holiday schedules between the two parties did not align, leading to the release of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion on its original release date of November 14. As a result, Nintendo Switch users in Europe and Australia may now play the Turok 3 remaster, but the current version is missing quality-of-life improvements and other bug fixes. These bugs include missing invincibility cheat functionality and game crashes at the start menu while selecting a character in the introduction sequence.

Unfortunately, the studio was unable to deploy fixes for the Nintendo Switch version's known issues in Europe and Australia ahead of the early launch, and Turok 2's online multiplayer mode does not appear to be returning for the Turok 3 remaster at launch. According to Nightdive Studios, bug fixes will arrive in a post-launch patch in mid-December 2023 for Nintendo Switch users in those regions. The developers also released patch notes for the new update, which outlines new features and fixes for the aforementioned bugs. Players in North America and other regions of the world will receive the correctly patched version of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion on November 30.

The Turok 3 remaster's early release may be beneficial for speed-runners and fans wanting to play as soon as possible, but the game's current list of known issues may potentially pose a problem with certain levels. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is an underrated Nintendo 64 title that will benefit from bug fixes, so fans in the affected regions may want to wait for the patch before starting a playthrough.
